The WD deal for 14tb with the chase 20% back came out a little cheaper price per tb, but involves shucking and questionable warranty. if I didn't already receive those, would've bought these.

So overall i was happy. So i'm in for 2 thanks. I was about to order the 2 26TB WD drives for $900. This saves me a bunch
I generally always get hitachi / WD drives but i've head toshiba before & haven't had any issues. I just steer clear of seagate drives.

If you can get one dirt cheap (like $6–$8 per TB), they might be worth the hassle. However, for anything over $10 per TB, I'd rather spend a bit more ($14–$16 per TB) to get actual NAS drives like the WD Red/Gold, put them in my NAS, and forget about them.
To clarify the "0 power-on hours" claim: manufacturers generally wipe the SMART data during the refurbishment process (source: https://serverpartdeals
Finally, a friendly suggestion: be the drives new or used, if your data is important, follow the 3-2-1 backup rule!

Fair enough - I'm having a hard time finding any really decent deals on new NAS drives even during this week so the $/TB here is very tempting. The Red Plus deals are not screaming to me as I'd rather pay slightly more for the Pro and get 2+ years more of warranty
