If it were any other airline I'd give it a thumbs up, but flying American just isn't worth the hassle. Abysmal customer service. They left my wife and son stranded in Chicago because they screwed up and couldn't get a flight crew (they had to buy a ticket on another airline or sit in Chicago for 2 days) But hey they did give them a meal voucher as compensation. Then after mistakenly giving American a second chance I managed to fall and break 6 ribs and puncture a lung, right before an anniversary trip and called them from the hospital about postponing our flight to London and they said it couldn't be moved (even for a fee) so I had to forfeit the tickets. They aren't getting a 3rd chance.

Please check with your credit card company if you purchased using one. Unfortunately I had an illness that prevented me from traveling, and my credit card company return the money.

You are assuming another airline company would do differently.

We got stranded in Dallas this summer and got vouchers for a hotel and transit. They treated us well in my opinion.

Most of the prices are MEH

Some standout basic economy (I always recommend regular economy at $200 more) fares to me are:

NYC-FCO 2/3 - 2/10 $363 but actually looks better on Delta

NYC -BUD 2/18 - 2/25 $354

So you got hurt and expect the airline to do something about the basic economy non-refundable ticket you purchased ? That is what travel insurance is for. Based on your history of issues YOU have it might be advisable for your next trip
