Polly Walker was so hot in this. I was a teenager when this came out.. my God what I would have given to have been an extra on that set!
Good show. It's sad that HBO cancelled it because it was "too expensive" followed by making other shows shortly after that were far costlier to produce.

Been a long long time since I've seen it. But recall really liking the first season.
The second? Not so much. Seemed rushed, with far too much major history happening (as if they had a 5-season arc but knew they were in jeopardy of cancellation). And leads became a bit too much like Forest Gump in terms of Roman history for my tastes.

Too expensive to have a decent battle scene, and then years later HBO gave us the slop battles in GoT.

My same recollection. I dropped off somewhere in the second season and really never went back to it

This reminded me, I need to give it another try now that it's on HBO. Started watching it after finishing GOT, and the endless orange/brown color of everything in it was hard to look at and too many people running and talking fast about other people and things, so I couldn't understand a goddamn thing and I thought it was boring as hell because of that. Will try again.
