I use it to make string carrots when I'm out and want a salad (and have carrots in another format, like chips, baby, or unadulterated).This happens with a surprising frequency.

It's quite good at that, though I do usually end up with one piece that never quite makes it to the shredder (but has served to push other similarly large pieces through until I stop).

We've had ours for about... 6 years now? Time flies. Just grated block of mozzarella a couple of days ago. It gets the job done, takes up more space than I'd like in the drawers, and don't use it that often at all. But if you want to avoid starch in preshredded cheese and hate grating manually, this is the best way. It doesn't really get cheaper than this either.

Coleslaw is another thing you can make fresh, 1000x better than the stale bagged stuff.

Or if you want cheeses that you can't get pre-shredded (like Brick Cheese for Detroit style pizza) this thing does it fast with minimal cleanup.

This is great, but if you don't have your kitchen aid on the counter for regular use, you will likely never use it, we have it and used it maybe twice because it just takes a lot of work to haul out this huge device.

You need a stand mixer lift you can install inside your cabinet.

Just a heads up: I got this years ago and used it a handful of times. I cleaned it in the dishwasher (which, I guess you're not supposed to do..) and the clear plastic part detached completely. Was unusable after that...

I have this and use it quite a bit. As previous poster mentioned, if you don't like using pre-shredded cheese in recipes, this works great to shred bricks of cheese. Also great for cutting veggies.
