Went to Shaw'a yesterday, and of course they didn't carry the individual El Monterey burritos or chimmis...I had so many coupons, it wasn't even funny.
On the bright side they had pork chops for $0.99/lb, beef patties for $1.99/lb, which had the $! freshness sticker on them,so I did fill my freezer with pork and beef. They even had the Green giant chips - so I could use my RC. Finally.
Oceanspray 100% juice cranberry-cherry was $0.99, but they were out of it, so grabbed a RC.
The Rachael Ray stuff - what a scam....$200 for a dinner plate, or a salad plate or a mug???
Do they really believe the shoppers are so stupid? Unbelievable.

If anyone is not going to use their Rachael Ray stamps, I'd love them. Happy to trade Qs or pay for stamp.

Yeah, it's a lot to have to spend $200, but if you think of how small the profit margin is (around 1% in 2010 from what I've read, for the industry) that equates to $2 profit for every $200 spent.

It looks like 3% of what is spent on groceries turns into the value of Rachel Ray dinnerware, and a little more if you go for 6. Typical net margins are 1%; and EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) are around 4%.

Do I have to feel sorry, sympathetic or anyway obligated to help them improve their profit margin, pay up for their gimmick from my pocket?

Question is rhetorical, do not have to answer. Wink

Let us not forget the profit margin is net - after all costs, expenses and write offs. Do not want to clutter store thread, but may I remind you that low profit doesn't mean bad operations for non publicly traded company.

Geez, I was just trying to put some perspective on it, folks, pointing out that each dish was not valued at $200! And no, you don't have to feel anything. Go shop somewhere else and take your negativity with you. I, for one, happen to like this promotion, and will make my offer again -- if anyone doesn't want their stamps, I'll gladly take them off your hands and be happy to trade for Qs.

Store's low net profit is a justification why low value promotion is a good one? shake head Karen, you like this promotion because you are planning to spend $$$$ at Shaw's or because you hope to trade for these stamps?

Nobody said that each dish is valued at $200. As stated, you have to spend $10 to earn 1 stamp, and 20 stamps would give you 1 free item, valued at $5.99. Actually, you'd have spend much more then $200: not many people leave at Shaw's the exact $10, $20 or $100, and they are not giving out stamps for partials - spending anywhere from $10 to $19.99 would earn 1 stamp, for example. This is reality, not negativity, no matter how much you (or anyone else) do like to hear it, rational and conservative approach to risk/reward ratio.

BTW, according to Terms and Conditions "Coupons are not included for purposes of calculating the total spending." This means that the stamps should be earned based on the total after coupons.

Hi Karen. If I ever make a trip to the one and only store around here ill send you mine. There are a few things I wouldn't mind grabbing just not really worth the trip a few towns away unless I happen to be that way.

I'll check w my mother in law too she lives over by there but I think she mainly shops MB but cant hurt to ask. I think the promo is awhile any how.

Thanks, Lisa. And, yes, the promo goes through the end of the year, I think. And, I'm saving those labels for education for you. Did you know there's one on the bottom of every one of those small goldfish cartons?!

For this deal,

Red Pack Tomatoes 10/$10, buy 10 and save $4 instantly
-$1/2 HERE [redgold.com]
=.50 each after coupon

Is there any reason we can't use 5 Qs, each for $1/2? Then it would look like -
Red Pack Tomatoes 10/$10, buy 10 and save $4 instantly
6.00 = 10.00 - 4.00 instant savings
-5.00 five MQ $1/2
------------
1.00 for 10 cans, or .10 each
