No. They should be ground for the health benefits. Whole seeds will pass through you

does the blender not grind them? Mine is a pretty capable blendtec. Do flax seeds require specialized equipment to grind them or something?

I buy organic whole flax seeds from Azure Standard. Their 5 lb bag costs $7.45. I order this and then share with local friends and family. The drawback with Azure Standard is, you have to go pick it up yourself. However, they offer good deals on bulk purchases of many other things. Check it out and see if they have a delivery location within driving distance.

A regular blender will not work. The seeds are small. I use a regular spice grinder and pulse it a few times, maybe 20-30 seconds of total pulsing. I don't own a Blendtec but from the looks of it I doubt it would work.

From the listing: "STORAGE: Keep these flax seeds in a cool, dry place to maintain optimal freshness and flavor". It's very unlikely that Amazon's supply chain kept them cool and dry.

No they don't, as long as they are ground up they are fine. I roast mine first before I grind them up.

Judging from the comments, is it perhaps more convenient to just buy ground up flax seeds? Any folks who have more experience with this my help a brother out

I would put the flax seeds in first and see. I used to use one of those Nutribullet blenders and it did the job. Just took the flax seeds out of the fridge, ground them, then added other smoothie ingredients. But, yes, definitely grind them fresh for health benefits. Better to buy whole and grind yourself vs buying pre ground.

Yes.
Less spoilage. Grind when you need. Or soak to make gel.

can a process entail soaking enough for a week on a countertop, and repeated every week? Does soaking whole seeds soften it enough to be blended into a smoothie in a typical blender?
