A "Hey I just watched a movie" thread

12,438 1,117 April 23, 2010 at 06:49 PM
One of the other forums I go to has one of these threads and I've been turned on to some good movies that other regulars just watched. I was kind of surprised not to see a similar thread here (at least not that I could find.) Big Grin

I just rewatched "Kinamand" - a cute drama about a Danish plumber who gets involved in an arranged marriage with a Chinese illegal. Good stuff (Netflix instant.)

So what have you folks watched recently?

Footloose (2011) - 2/5 - When will Hollywood stop remaking classic movies? Also, I'm wondering if they couldn't get the rights to the original music or if they made a intentional choice to use god-awful crappy remakes.

In Time - 4/5 - A pretty entertaining movie if you totally ignore how/why time is a currency.

Underground: The Julian Assange Story - 8/10 Definitely an interesting story that gave more insight into the background of one of the greatest/noblest first hackers of our lifetime.

Resident Evil: Retribution - watched this last night and it's only 95 minutes and I actually liked it more than Afterlife. A couple of more video game characters are added and one re-introduced and I think it sets up for a good follow up movie. They usually keep the budget sensible so it always turns a profit so hopefully another one is in store as it honestly is a decent popcorn movie, nothing more.
laugh out loud I didn't realize this was playing! Looked it up and there are only two theaters nearby showing it, and one has only one showtime.

Hopefully it will still be there this weekend. Smilie I've been a fan of the movies - like you said, they are decent popcorn movies nod

Was the last one the movie where she spends the first while on her own, alone, and it's really boring and slow? And then weird later with the new characters and all?

Action movies are better when the non-macho people in the movies don't take so much time worrying about their feelings when they're being shot at.

DoYouRemix wasn't kidding about the illogical actions taken by the characters, or about the editing cuts that are so fast it can be hard to keep up with them. I think the camera angle cut six times in 10 seconds even when the guy is just putting on a tie.

Might go see Looper this weekend, looks pretty good based on the trailer, plus it has an 8.2 rating on IMDB. Has anyone here seen it yet?

Yeah we caught the only showing, a 10:45pm showing. 19 minutes of trailers, talk about ridiculous. We showed up 8 minutes late. My wife is on crutches. I escort her into the auditorium, then go back to the concession stand. I get some eats, get back to the auditorium, get seated, and still catch half of Django Unchained before the movie starts. Facepalm

Afterlife was where her and her clones attack a building to get Whesker, epic fail, and shows her months later alone. She meets up with Claire, frees the spider thing off her chest and helps her slowly remember what happened to where they got caught after the end of Extinction, then they go to this skyscraper to find survivors before heading over to the big ass boat. Yeah a lot of new characters but only weird if compared to when they were introduced from the video game then it's all Censored

Ohhh, okay. Yeah, I must be thinking of Extinction.
I haven't played the games Embarrassment I don't do well with games where I get jumpy and panicky. laugh out loud I need to work on that... I'd probably appreciate the movies a bit more, too.

Ok oh the Resident Evil games are very good for the jumpy and panicky as well as a streak of eery. Great stuff and the surroundings and back stories were developed far more.

Was just watching a trailer for a Simon Pegg black comedy movie (he just Tweeted about it) and the line that made me LOL was this...

Tina: I never thought about murdering innocent people before.
Cris: He's not a person Tina, he's a Daily Mail reader.

The Raven
Just could not finish the movie, I kept falling asleep.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
Good solid cast, fairly predictable story, told competently, enjoyed it. 7/10.

Rock of Ages

I finished up a handful of movies over the weekend:

The Hangover (2009) - One of my favorites, and now I need to see the second one again. "It's where I keep all my things. Get a lot of compliments on this. Plus it's not a purse, it's called a satchel. Indiana Jones wears one."

Clash of the Titans (2010) - My son is on a mythology kick (yay!), but the original CotT wasn't available. I still don't know what the blue things in the desert were supposed to be.

Mark of the Vampire (1935) - A spooky film with great atmosphere that had loads o' potential. Holy bait and switch ending though, Batman! This may have the weirdest ending I have ever seen. Or it is 2nd to Monty Pyton and the Holy Grail.

Flying Deuces (1939) - I love Laurel & Hardy, but this one was pretty uneventful. Not bad per se, but not entirely eventful, either.

We saw this one last week as well...Tom Cruise was as absurd as could be and he looked like he enjoyed every minute of it!! Russell Brand was...well...Russell Brand....and Paul Giamatti delivers yet another oily sleazebaggy character.

I graduated in 1986 so this was smack dab in the middle of my young adult years...BIG HAIR FOREVER...(insert head banging rockin smiliey)
