A "Hey I just watched a movie" thread

12,438 1,117 April 23, 2010 at 06:49 PM
One of the other forums I go to has one of these threads and I've been turned on to some good movies that other regulars just watched. I was kind of surprised not to see a similar thread here (at least not that I could find.) Big Grin

I just rewatched "Kinamand" - a cute drama about a Danish plumber who gets involved in an arranged marriage with a Chinese illegal. Good stuff (Netflix instant.)

So what have you folks watched recently?

Fast & Furious 6 - 4/5 - Good movie. This would be a great ending to the series as it wrapped up things very nicely and especially considering the death of Paul Walker, but unfortunately they are making a 7th movie. Nono The biggest complaint I had was the final chase scene. Confused
6 was the best one yet. They had already taped 3/4 of 7 before he died and were already starting on 8 I believe so you can expect at least 8 IMO. I thought I heard they wanted to go as far as 9 at one point...

As far as movies I've seen recently:

22 Jump Street was hilarious. It is easily one of the best sequels ever. I'm not so sure I would put it higher than 21 Jump Street but it's as close as a sequel can get for sure. Many consider it funnier so to each his own. 9/10

i frankenstein. I made the mistake of spending 38 cents on this movie at redbox. I was just standing there and didn't feel like researching the movies so I just went with it partially due to the 3D aspect. What a horrendous movie. 1/10 and that's only because some of the 3d was ok.

Oblivion - 7/10

Was confused as to why it wasn't anything like the trailer I watched. Figured out after half an hour that the trailer I watched was for Edge of Tomorrow. laugh out loud

Predictable but decent.

Transformers: Age of Extinction - great visual effects again like the previous movies. Shaky cam there was, but not to the Jason Bourne point of vomiting. Without Shia and a different mood to the film compared to the prior movies, it felt different but it's obvious this is the start of another trilogy, yeah I said it, get ready for it. All in all it was worth watching as a popcorn movie.

Dawn Of The Planets Of The Apes - A bit preachy. Somewhat fun seeing what the apes have built but not anywhere near as good as the first 7/10

Hunger Games - Felt like it was a mix between Lord of the flies and The Running Man. 7/10

Hunger Games Catching Fire - A remake of the first lol I figured that if they really dispised the idea of the games all 24 would refuse to fight among themselves would be the logical idea. 5/10

Jump Street 21 - Besides having waifu drooling over Channing Tatum pretty funny movie. The cop part of me kept thinking how stupid the plot holes where. Loved the explosions gag. 8/10

The Innkeepers - Why do I keep letting my wife pick one night and me the other? 2/10 for the jump scare scenes

End was too predicitable. Also lost of stuff that does not even make sense. Suspension of disbelief level is high. Still 7/10 is about right maybe 6/10 for predictability and glaring plot holes.

Saw the Apes movie. Ehh, it's ok. First half was pretty slow but the end was pretty good.

A Million Ways to Die In the West - I love Family Guy and Seth MacFarlane has written his two movies so afr as extended versions of a typical Family Guy episode. The one issue I have is that the movie was doing great without need of the infamous scatlogical jokes until about three quarters of the way in when when we get a very visual shit gag which I think took away from showcasing Seth not needing to rely on that type of low brow gag. 9/10 (Could be way lower if you are not a FG fan)

22 Jump Street - Very similar to the first, I love that fact that they keep referencing the TV show and the first movie and even some other movies without making it necessary to have previous knowledge to get the joke. 8/10

Quote from ramon2006 :
Her - Joaquin Phoenix was great but his mustache was distracting on some of the close up scenes. Cinematography was amazing. Sexy Scarlett Johansson voice, check! A glimpse into the not so distant future with advanced technology and increased dependence between man and computer

On the edge on watching this one or not.

I'm a fan of Family Guy and Seth, but didn't think the movie was that funny at all, cpl good ones and that's it for me. 5 or 6/10

I am easily entertained. The Ruth gag was funny. The entire fair was well done. The mustache song. And the barn surprise gag was cool as well. Just liked how it all flowed. But than again I am a FG and Seth fan so it stands that I overrated it by a truckload.

Sex Tape - Funny but probably not worth it to see it in the theater. Wait til it's on DVD or Redbox. Most of the funnier parts are on the trailer. I don't think I've seen much more asides from naked body parts on the screen. 2/5

Need for Speed - Not much different than Fast and Furious and quite honestly the story line sucked. If it weren't for some nicer cars, it's not even worth the watch. 1/5

Blended - I like the chemistry between Drew and Adam. This movie was very funny from beginning to end. I wasn't expecting much but was pretty entertained. 4/5

Haunt - See this is what makes me wonder why I keep letting waifu choose movies. Any way basic evil house story with one nice twist that redeems it somewhat. No real tension besides the accustomed jump scares. 5/10
