Anyone have a good recipe for Chocolate Syrup for ice cream? I have been using THIS [allrecipes.com] one but not real happy with it. Would like a thicker sauce. This one is very thin.

I make a variation of that only in a smaller batch-since I'm the one that eats it. My measurements are less than exact, but if you use it I know you'll adjust.

I take a 1/4 cup sugar and put it in a small pan, add about 1 1/2 TB of cocoa(I do it by eye as I don't like it too fudgy) Mix it up to get the lumps out. Add 1/4 milk, you can use cream or a mixture) a pinch of salt, 1TB of butter, 1 1/2 TB to 2 TB of Karo syrup and some vanilla.
I mix it up, and bring to a slow boil, stir it for a minute or so and take it off the heat and either let it cool some-whatever you want for your ice cream. The longer you cook, how much Karo and if you use straight cream will make a difference in how thick it is.

You can make more it you want, but this works for about 3 dishes for me-ENOUGH....

I also use the bulk of the same recipe for making caramel sauce. Use brown sugar instead of white, no cocoa.

ETA I was a little worried so I just made some. I edited the Karo amount, boiled for around 2 minutes stirring every once in a while. I used just milk so it is a little thinner cooking than if you use straight cream so then you might cook less with the cream. When I use cream it doesn't seem to taste as chocolatey to me...it's a template-I've been making it this way since I was a kid and do a lot by look. I know you're a great cook so if you use this it you'll be great.

Don't forget that tomorrow is April Fool's Day and SD always plays shenanigans on us. So if you're on late tonight, don't freak out if the site is wonky somehow. Wondering what they have planned. LMAO

They are cute.

We are having strawberries tonight. DH mom always made with broken up pie crust, sweetened strawberries and sweetened whipped cream. Pretty good if you want something different from shortcake.

Looks like what folks playing the University of Arkansas should eat at their tailgate parties (razorbacks... hogs)

I feel off. I had chalked it up to not sleeping, but since I didn't have a problem last night, I don't know what it is. Depressed (hate my job... only 8 more years to retirement), stressed (I haven't even looked at my taxes, my house is a wreck [and I don't really care], need to stop by and pick up my repaired chair, but there's no room for it in the car, need a haircut), car crap...just blah.

I don't give a flip about anything right now.

Sorry tn. Now, you know if will take more than one night's sleep to get you caught up.

Hating your job is a bad trip. You spend so much time there and would be lovely if you loved it. I detest tax time too. I finally got ours done last week.

Hope tomorrow brings a better day for you.

thanks...I tolerated my job until they changed my position 2 years ago. I was moved because the guy who HAD the task before me kept losing $$ for the folks he was supporting and my boss gave my good job to my officemate. The support at Ft. Gordon dried up (all the support for Ft. Gordon is done locally now). I haven't had a new task since October, so putting in my hours is a challenge, as there is nothing to do.

Currently I have a deadline, but it involves me being a scan clerk, seriously (I'm a software test engineer). Scan the barcodes of all the equipment in all the offices/labs and then put out a list of what I didn't find. Will end on the 20th of April. I'm half done for the hand receipt I manage. The other hand receipt is WAY behind, but they didn't come and get the scanner to scan with when they had the opportunity.

I don't want to end this on a downer. I am blessed by God to have a great paying job with good benefits. I have no debt and I coupon simply as a hobby (single, I have to do something with my time). Helping others is what I enjoy doing, or I wouldn't work in three SD threads (printables, Publix and Kroger).

Amen. My sister lost her job very suddenly last week. She's a single mother and freaking-the-fark-out right now. My mom is helping her with her mortgage (thankfully her only debt) and I'm helping her with food, etc. until she figures everything out. I'm just grateful that we are in a position to help her out.
