Can I Transfer an Xbox Live Gold Subscription to Someone Else??

Thread Details

So, I had a code for a free 30-day Xbox Live Gold subscription. I just tried redeeming the code in my account, and it worked. This is somewhat upsetting because it was supposed to have expired yesterday (8/31).

I now realize and fully admit that this was a stupid thing to do. There were many other routes I could have taken with that code, and I chose the wrong one.
Had I known it was still usable, I would have traded it in the trading thread, but now I can't. Or at least I don't know how. That's where I need the help of the Gamer's Lounge.
Thanks
Any and all help is greatly appreciated. TIA!

Oh--let me settle this right off the bat:
"Well you should just use the code yourself."
I don't own an Xbox, never have owned an Xbox, and have no interest whatsoever in owning an Xbox. If I can't transfer this subscription to someone--even just to GIVE it away--it will sit there for 30 days and then die a sad, lonely death.

If you've redeemed the code then there is nothing that can be done. Code wasted.

Why do you have an XBL account then?

Also, does MS not provide a way to preview the code before actually redeeming it? I know the PS3 allows you to do this (at least through the website code redemption route)

What about putting the subscription on hold? Any way to do that? I haven't been active on XBL for a while but I'm pretty sure my sub still hasn't expired...

I don't really have an XBL account. I just went to the link that came with the code, and signed in with my MSN email address.

I can't see anywhere to preview the code, but I probably could've emailed them to find out if it was expired or not.

What about just adding the person's gamertag (or whatever it's called) to my account, since I don't have one? Would that affect their ability to play using any downloaded content that they bought with their own account??

No, that won't work.

There is no way to do what you want, period. You have wasted the code.

code is gone and used up. the only way to "transfer" an account is to give them your email and password that you used to sign up for the account... which is not a good idea because you used your MSN account.

in the future, if for whatever reason, you want to sell/trade an account make sure you set it up with a new email and password. (an email that is brand new that you don't use)

After ordering a deal immediately delete your deal alert. You got your item; you don't want it shipped with a side of remorse.

So, I am confused...you keep talking about your account and how you tied the code to your acount, then you mention tying someones Gamertag to your "account"...do you mean tie their Gamertag to YOUR Gamertag? I don't think that is what you meant because EVERYONE would share live if they could.

So, you don't have an Xbox but you made a Gamertag with your MSN email...what is your Gamertag then? And lastly, how did you get this code? (Through what promotion)

That works on Steam or whatever but won't work on 360 games...peoples Gamertag is something a gamer really cares about, you don't see people hoping from tag to tag just for a couple days of live.

actually people buy/sell/trade gamertags all the time on xbox live. especially if you play MW2, or Halo 3. there are offers to sell/boost/trade accounts for both of these games so you can buy a top ranking, etc.

people also sell accounts with 4000 microsoft points (or more) on them (but most, if not all, of these accounts are made with a stolen credit card).

I don't have an Xbox, therefore I don't have a Gamertag. I did mean tie someone else's Gamertag to my Xbox/MSN account.
Unless there are more places than an Xbox that I would use my Gamertag? Like Bing Online Games, or something of the like?? If that's the case, then I probably do have one.

Nobody in the right mind would give you access to their account.

  1. Using quotes enables phrase search and it makes the order of the terms important. Thus "rotten apple" would return posts with "rotten peach & apple" but will not return "the apple is rotten."
