MP530 ink bypass hack?

eli2k 1,056 199 December 24, 2010 at 02:43 AM
Does anyone know how to bypass the ink-check function on this stupid printer so I can use the scanner without having to replace all of the ink cartridges? I just want to use it to scan but ink is totally out (not low ink, but out of ink). Worst purchase ever. LMAO

Also did you know you can direct print on cd/dvd with your MP530 if you buy This Tray [ebay.com]

I love my MP530, best printer I ever had. 3rd party ink refills are cheap and work very well for most uses. It doesn't provide professional quality photo prints but if that is what you need you shouldn't be using an office printer anyway. The scanner auto-feeder is also a huge bonus.

Many of the ink cartridges have a circuit board built into them that has memory that is supposed to determine when the cartridge is empty. This memory may not be very accurate and sometimes you can reset it. Look at the top of the circuit board for a small hole. You can bend a paperclip so you have an end that will give you a "punch" that will press in this hole above the circuit board attached to the cartridge. Remove the cartridge from the printer, give it a press in the hole with the bent out paper clip and then reinstall the cartridge. See if the ink level goes up to show you have about half or so and can now print.

Let's dumb it down a little bit okay?

Cover the ink cartridge in question with permanent black marker. That'll fix it!

My Brother printer does the same thing: "make me buy more ink" like it's cool. So, I bought a permanent marker which is cheaper and have the printer fooled that I always have full ink when I really don't!
