Problems scanning Q's at SCO? First posted here:

Credit for this goes to Skibum - On the SCO at Safeway if your coupon doesnt scan you can manually input the numbers using the enter PLU function. Basically its the option where you would enter produce.

A coupon database is available at www.Families.com once you've registered there. Good resource for checking availability & location of coupons for specific items you're interested in. (Thx to errickson for the info!) Another great one is available at www.coupontom.com [http]. And the nice thing here, you don't have to register!

This thread has good info on what coupons are available, what insert they were in and the date.

Also keep in mind the Entertainment Book typically has money saving coupons for Safeway listed quarterly. And, if your store doesn't object, these coupons sometimes do not beep based on dates.

Coupon use at Safeway
Safeway usually issues store specific coupons via various formats...newspaper ads, mailers & emails. You can sign up for emails on their website.

Their coupons tend to scan fine at any store within their brand, even if the stores are not in the same area. For example, Tom Thumb coupons work at Randall's, and vice versa.

Their coupons also tend to scan fine at any store within their brand, even if the coupon says it's good only at a certain store. The best example of these are the ones issued when a store is remodeling or for a grand opening.

Usually, their coupons scan fine when you are using two different types of their coupons on one product. For example, $1 off Tide from a newspaper ad and $2 off Tide from some other source. This only works when the two coupons are obviously different (check the codes). I am not sure if it would work if you were only buying one item and trying to use two store coupons. I've never had a reason to test that.

Their coupons can be used in conjunction with manufacturers coupons, even if that causes an overage, although they won't pay you to take products out of the store! laugh out loud

Some stores don't accept internet printable coupons, there is a corporate policy on what coupons they take, and some stores follow this policy to the nth degree. If you get to one of these stores, try the store down the street, it is probably much more coupon friendly.

Manufacturer coupons for free or bogo items tend to attempt to give you credit for the price of the item without the card discount, but they usually beep for the cashier to approve the coupon.

Self Checkout lanes (SCOs) are a great way to get out of the store quickly. You can use your coupons except all BOGO, FREE and coupons over $3.00 (may be $2) require cashier intervention. This can be a hassle if you have very many of these type of coupons. You will also have trouble if you're buying a clearanced product that has the % off tag that has to be scanned.

Stores in different areas have different promotional deals regarding the doubling and/or tripling of coupons. If you see someone commenting on it here, you need to check what your local store does.

And while coupons may scan fine, the cashier you're dealing with can make any of the above YMMV. Smilie

i'm in CA, why?

this is so frustrating - the J4U items are clearly added onto my card but then no savings get deducted when i purchase the items. and of course no one at customer service can figure it out either. Mad

does it matter whether you're scanning your actual club card, or just typing in the phone number that's related to your club card account? i've just been typing in my phone number (don't like carrying the card), but it appears it recognizes my number because it'll say something like "club card activated" on the screen.
hug Sorry you are having such a hard time with J4U - it can be very frustrating!!! Since none of the J4U savings are being deducted perhaps the phone number on your account isn't the same one you are entering? Have you double checked that no numbers were transposed? When you enter your number at the terminal it would still pick it up as a valid club card but not make the connection to your J4U account. If that's not the case, maybe just getting a new card would work? Hope you get it worked out!!

Here's SW suggestion from their FAQs:
What if I add an offer, but I don't get that price at the register?
There are a few reasons why this might happen. You might have bought the wrong brand or size (like buying a 12-pack of soda instead of the 2-liter bottle). Customer Care at 1-877-SAFEWAY (1-877-723-3929) can look into the transaction and determine the problem and solution.

yeah, i've triple checked that the right phone number is programmed into my online J4U account. when i went to purchase the items and they weren't deducted, i just had the clerk cancel the whole transaction.

then i took the items to self check out and tried doing it there two different times. it didn't work either time. and i'm positive that i'm entering the right phone number when i'm at safeway. and i'm also sure that i'm bringing the same exact products that are shown on the coupons.

i'm going tomorrow and will bring the actual club card with me. if it still doesn't work then, i'll just ask for a new card and try again.

This might be a little bit simple... but what about printing out your list AT THE STORE... and then taking that with your receipt to CS, for items that don't work as promised? I have had that work, as far as honoring the "deal".

i actually did that today and they did try manually applying the J4U coupons, but they did it wrong and not all the discounts were applied correctly, so i just had them cancel everything.

also, i wouldn't want to have to go through that manual process with customer service every time i wanted to do a J4U deal. it's way too much hassle and time with them, it just needs to work automatically as it's suppose to.

What is the O Organics code? I'm assuming you do it at SCO, but what buttons do you press to get to the screen where you enter the code? Thanks!

Just a heads up to clear room in the freezer, March is Frozen Foods Month. Safeway is running another promo this year; Buy $30 in select frozen items, get a $10 Q good on your next trip. Also buy $20,get a $5 Q. Promo runs thru 3/31, though the sale items change each week. Look for the 'participating tags' in the frozen section.Looks like it starts this week.
tysm for details
expected March FF deal so tried to cool it on buying/freezing a bunch of cheap bread, go too crazy on Kashi meals, etc but the dang thing seems to be self-refillinglaugh out loud

Found a separate FF insert in one Sunday paper.
Not in my home deliverd SJ Merc, but was in paper bought @ CVS
Glossy, trifold. If you didn't see it, check you paper again before recycling Smilie

you already added them to your card prior, hadn't used them, and now they're gone from under your account?

i added mine a few days ago and still haven't used them, but they're still on my account. i get that error msg sometimes when i'm in J4U, but i just refresh my screen and then it usually disappears.

now there's another new J4U coupon for the medley crunch - this time $0.50 off, so each box will only be $0.38.

i've already done this deal once on our other safeway club card and it's well worth it. the medley crunch tastes pretty good with its different textures and flakes.. a little bit like honey bunches of oats.

I added to two cards and only used one and the deal seems to have disappeared completely from the other card. I don't even have the option of adding the weekly coupon for the $1.88 price.

I just want to make sure I am correct before I take my receipt to CS. I had J4U pricing on various chips of $1.88 and $1.99. I also had 10% off any chips purchase. I should get both, right? The 10% did not come off...

small print in ad says amount is net of coupons, promos, etc....
which means you have to actually fork over $20 or $30?

there's also 10CAT wyb $75 this weekend

maybe could buy $200BC for $55 after all Qs/CATs but too rich for me

Wondering if paying with a CAT is like cash or using Qs?

Digital Qs include 1.99 Kraft shred cheese. If it's SQ and can use thre $1/1ip from Publix site, not a bad price. Trumps this week's lucerne deal

Last year, I was able to roll the $10 cat coupons(they counted as cash). I'm hoping it hasn't changed.

In my book the Lays Kettle chips and Rold Gold pretzel deals are decent. $1.99 each with $1 "off" from coupon center for each - L4 (I assume combined total of 4). I can continue to avoid Costco at a buck a bag for good pretzels for kid snacks nod

is $0.99 for a bag of 8 oz. lays kettle chips considered a slick deal?

has anyone seen these for less?

1. yes
2. no

Regular price is $3.99 or varies according to region.
Just a heads up, today is the last day for this deal. ($1.99 exp today, $1 mq expires 3/30)

Also, Am I correct in assuming if I had previously used my BOGO Katy Perry Popchip deal, that I can't get it again? Its no longer in my J4U

So, does the Lays $1 off and Rold Gold $1 off J4U coupons, take $1 off multiple bags? Or is it just $1 off the first bag? Anyone know? thanks

Correct. Both coupons are one-time use.

The $1.00 is manufacturer's coupon. Therefore, you can use it one time and one bag only.

seriously...sw has long been egregious in consumer wrongdoing. search this thread for good reading 'price scan guarantee'.

contact your county's weights & measures dept.

here's a few news links -

http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/...customers/

http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/...omplaints/

this issue comes up frequently & perhaps the 'price scan guarantee' should be added to the wiki since sw doesn't post it on their website Mad

esssentially if an item is <$5, you receive the entire amount paid refunded. additional like items are adjusted to the sale price. if item is >$5 - get sale adjusted price & $5 sw gc woot
