Problems scanning Q's at SCO? First posted here:

Credit for this goes to Skibum - On the SCO at Safeway if your coupon doesnt scan you can manually input the numbers using the enter PLU function. Basically its the option where you would enter produce.

A coupon database is available at www.Families.com once you've registered there. Good resource for checking availability & location of coupons for specific items you're interested in. (Thx to errickson for the info!) Another great one is available at www.coupontom.com [http]. And the nice thing here, you don't have to register!

This thread has good info on what coupons are available, what insert they were in and the date.

Also keep in mind the Entertainment Book typically has money saving coupons for Safeway listed quarterly. And, if your store doesn't object, these coupons sometimes do not beep based on dates.

Coupon use at Safeway
Safeway usually issues store specific coupons via various formats...newspaper ads, mailers & emails. You can sign up for emails on their website.

Their coupons tend to scan fine at any store within their brand, even if the stores are not in the same area. For example, Tom Thumb coupons work at Randall's, and vice versa.

Their coupons also tend to scan fine at any store within their brand, even if the coupon says it's good only at a certain store. The best example of these are the ones issued when a store is remodeling or for a grand opening.

Usually, their coupons scan fine when you are using two different types of their coupons on one product. For example, $1 off Tide from a newspaper ad and $2 off Tide from some other source. This only works when the two coupons are obviously different (check the codes). I am not sure if it would work if you were only buying one item and trying to use two store coupons. I've never had a reason to test that.

Their coupons can be used in conjunction with manufacturers coupons, even if that causes an overage, although they won't pay you to take products out of the store! laugh out loud

Some stores don't accept internet printable coupons, there is a corporate policy on what coupons they take, and some stores follow this policy to the nth degree. If you get to one of these stores, try the store down the street, it is probably much more coupon friendly.

Manufacturer coupons for free or bogo items tend to attempt to give you credit for the price of the item without the card discount, but they usually beep for the cashier to approve the coupon.

Self Checkout lanes (SCOs) are a great way to get out of the store quickly. You can use your coupons except all BOGO, FREE and coupons over $3.00 (may be $2) require cashier intervention. This can be a hassle if you have very many of these type of coupons. You will also have trouble if you're buying a clearanced product that has the % off tag that has to be scanned.

Stores in different areas have different promotional deals regarding the doubling and/or tripling of coupons. If you see someone commenting on it here, you need to check what your local store does.

And while coupons may scan fine, the cashier you're dealing with can make any of the above YMMV. Smilie

SAFEWAY SCAN ACCURACY POLICY: First posted here:

I asked for their scan accuracy policy and this is what they replied with:
Also, please find below our scanning accuracy policy at your local Safeway stores:

We guarantee the accuracy of our electronic checkout system. Safeway will give you the item free, if the price on your detailed receipt is different (higher or lower) than indicated in advertisements or shown on the shelf price tag. You will only receive one of the items for free with the remaining items at the correct price.

If the item is on sale and register rings up the regular price, the store will only pay the difference on the item. If a customer is overcharged on a Buy One Get One special, not only will they receive the free item, they will receive the overcharged item free as well. It is subjected to a limit of one.

This does not apply to liquor, tobacco, or fluid milk items. In these cases, you will get the item at the sale price instead of free.
Safeway policy on B1G1F Q usage:

"On Buy One, Get One Free ("BOGO") offers, customer must purchase the first iem to receive the second item free. BOGO offers are not 1/2 price sales. If only a single item purchased, the regular price applies. Manufacturer's coupons may be used on purchased items only -- not on free items."

COUPON SOURCES: (also see S'momma's post #1 above for more info)

JFU DISCOUNTS and COUPONS (Linked to Safeway Club Card)
1) Coupon Center discounts:
a. $X.XX (specific price given) These are the electronic version of the SW in-ad clippable coupons. They are unlimited unless otherwise stated and can be used only once (one-time use).
b. SAVE $X.XX These are manufacturer eCoupons good only on the number of items specified (usually 1) and are one-time use (just like paper MQs)
c. $X.XX OFF These are Safeway eCoupons good on all the specified items in your transaction, unless otherwise stated (i.e. Limit 1, Limit 2, etc.). These coupons are one-time use.

2) Personalized Deals discounts:
a. $X.XX (specific price given) or FREE. These are tailored to a JFU members account. They are unlimited unless otherwise stated and are one-time use.

Important Notes:
Discounts a, b, and c may be stacked and may or may not result in overage.
Paper MQs may be stacked with discounts a and c only.

ELECTRONIC COUPONS
o Shortcuts, Cellfire and other e-coupons can be stacked for use on one item (or more, as specified by the eQ, e.g. $1/2 or $1/4). eQs may also be combined with paper Qs. eQs are one time-use only and should come off your account within 24 hours of redemption (unless there's a glitch).

Shortcuts - Register at www.shortcuts.com with your zipcode or one from the Wiki (see above), and update the profile with your Club Card info. Max number of offers that may be loaded to your card at any time is 75. To view all eQs loaded to your card at once: Click on the "My Coupons" tab >> click on the "Brand" label to sort the list into brand groups alphabetically and then click the "Print" icon on the page (not your browser icon). An preview list will open in a new tab or window rather than an output document. You can simply view and close the page, save to PDF or print to hardcopy.

Cellfire - Register at www.cellfire.com using the same process as above. You may load as many offers as you wish. Click the "Print Shopping List" button to view a single page of all eQs loaded to your card, sorted by brand.

Coupons.com - Register HERE [coupons.com]. Offers may differ from those at Cellfire and Shortcuts.

Softcoin - Register HERE [softcoin.com]. Offers are somewhat different from Shortcuts, Cellfire and coupons.com. More details here.

* Certain eQs are duplicated on both Shortcuts and Cellfire -- and that's a good thing! Big Grin All eQs per like item should come off at once at checkout.

Issues with E-Coupons Not Redeeming? File a dispute in the "contact us" section directly on each particular e-coupon site. You may need to scan your receipt and email it to the company. Please note that shortcuts.com does not have an automatic setup for card-refunding so you will NOT see SAFEWAY or affiliates listed as an optional store in the dispute form. You will need to submit generic contact comments with your store/card/receipt numbers and items and then shortcuts will send you a gift card for the amount you did not receive in e-coupons.

PAPER COUPONS
* Paper Qs may be combined with eQs in the same transaction. Check the following threads for paper Q possibilities:

I forgot to mention at Randall's in Houston-- - Carmex was 99? -- there's supposedly a coupon for 30?/1 in 10/21 SS.. and there's also an IP for 30?/1 .. So it would be 10? after triples..

I think it goes on until 12/25.. at least that's what I remember reading on the tag...

Hey not sure I'm onto anything but it seems like often times if I can't tell the difference between a MQ or a Safeway Q on J4U if the little( ® ) symbol is in the description it's a MQ. That isn't the case for P &G's but for many others I've wondered about its worked. Maybe it's just wishful thinking. Or maybe everyone knows that already? If the latter is true don't tell me otherwise....let me think I'm speciallaugh out loud

If the Cinn Almond Raisin bran was also on sale, you can earn $1 with Ibotta

Quote from tuffghost View Post :
Good news: Kellogg's Raisin Bran was .29 each after the 1.50 IP and the 10% off boxed cereal j4u. I bought 8 in one transaction and all 8 rang up the same price.

Bad news: My 30% bread and buns j4u did not come off the Nature's Own "Butterbread" but my 1.99 personalized price did work. For about the last 4-5 weeks some varieties of NO bread have been on sale for 2.00 each. A few weeks ago I tried multiple varieties within the j4u size restrictions but which were NOT on sale and found only the Butterbread worked for both my PP j4u and the 30% B&B jfu. The 30% came off the full price of 3.49... I believe my PP at the time was 2.02 and it made the loaves .94 each. But tonight when I tried only my PP of 1.99 came through Frown I had them voided off. If anyone knows of another variety of NO that will work with both EQs please let me know.

Also at the first store I went to tonight, my primary store which I have shopped at for years, my cashier informed me for the first time that there is a limit of 3 like coupons per transaction! I asked how long this had been going on and she said it had been that way but wasn't often enforced but she would ask for manager approval for me. I have used more than 3 likes at this store (and with this same cashier) for years. Why did she start to enforce it now? And it turns out when she asked for permission, the MOD denied me! The cashier offered to ring them up in separate transactions for me but I was trying to use up my $10 cats expiring tonight, and splitting them up wouldn't allow me to do that. I told her and the MOD to void off the whole transaction and that I would go have to shop at another store, which I did. Mad

I had a similar experience at another store 2 weeks ago when the cashier studied my IP's like he had never seen one before and told me he didn't think they would take them. He called the MOD on the phone and asked if they took coupons "that people printed off themselves, like on their printer"... And the manager told him on the phone not to take them! I had to leave and go to another store then too! I was angry enough I actually emailed corporate about that, they responded with an apology but I'm not sure if they really did anything about it though... Has anyone else experienced this? Confused

If you printed that BOGO Taipei, fyi it autoed at 3$ for me!!

Found two BOGO TPQs on the Gourmet Garden herbs, not sure if someone placed them there, or if they were a TP in store, but might be worth checking. Those are to for 7 and count towards produce.

Also free/cheap Earthbound Farms Apple snacks (they were 10 for 10) depending if your store doubles, there are 0.75/1 Earthbound printable out, that come out frequently

Also found 0.50/1 Lindt Lindor truffles bags

where are you guys getting the gift card j4u, is it the coupon center? I didn't get last time or now and I really want to find some GC deals.
went for 10/50 deal the other day, half the j4u didnt come, manu coupon bogo weren't taken out. went back in and had such a long wait, what a waste of time. I pretty much have stopped shopping at sfwy for this reason. e.g betty crocker cookie mix for 17.5oz didn't come up as 1.79 j4u prize, told them when I went next day. manager pointed out to receipt saying it is 26oz see, I was pretty sure it was small packet. I came home and checked and it is 17.5 oz. so, even their price scan is messed up for 17.5 oz they are scanning it up as 26 oz on receipt. what fraud!

Yup the $15 is JFU ecoupon center. The 15% is automatic. The deal is unlimited if you break your transactions up into $60 increments (two $30 multipacks). $36 for $60 itunes.

On a side note, I did this deal on Monday and I thought it was a fluke that my itunes gc plus 4 naked juices ended up being $30.xx. I had an extra $5 and $3 come off. I had a feeling the extra $3 was the $3 off $30 but I have no idea about the $5. I didn't realize the deal was unlimited that day so I didn't do it again. My JFU account $3/30 is expired but I got a $4/40, so I'm going to try the 4 naked plus itunes again and see what happens. Big Grin Anyone else try it?

hoping for this...
$60 itunes
$10 naked juice (4)
-$4.50 x 2 itunes 15%
-$15 itunes JFU
-$.55 mft x 4 then doubled
-$3/10 JFU
-$4/40 JFU
=$34.60

Well shoot I hope the naked juices are still on sale for $2.50!

I have a $10 off $10 Catalina to use today. If I buy more than $10 of groceries, is there any harm in doing the iTunes deal on the same receipt? Has anyone had any problems getting the $15 off $50 iTunes, 15% off iTunes, and the $10 off $10 Catalina on the same receipt?

My JFU account $3/30 is expired but I got a $4/40, so I'm going to try the 4 naked plus itunes again and see what happens. Big Grin Anyone else try it?

hoping for this...
$60 itunes
$10 naked juice (4)
-$4.50 x 2 itunes 15%
-$15 itunes JFU
-$.55 mft x 4 then doubled
-$3/10 JFU
-$4/40 JFU
=$34.60

Well shoot I hope the naked juices are still on sale for $2.50!
quoting myself here... lol... just wanted to say I did this and it worked perfectly. Big Grin

It shouldn't be a problem. I did the iTunes, Lowes, a $10/10 and a $10/50 all in the same transaction and had no problems.

where are you guys getting the gift card j4u, is it the coupon center? I didn't get last time or now and I really want to find some GC deals.
went for 10/50 deal the other day, half the j4u didnt come, manu coupon bogo weren't taken out. went back in and had such a long wait, what a waste of time. I pretty much have stopped shopping at sfwy for this reason. e.g betty crocker cookie mix for 17.5oz didn't come up as 1.79 j4u prize, told them when I went next day. manager pointed out to receipt saying it is 26oz see, I was pretty sure it was small packet. I came home and checked and it is 17.5 oz. so, even their price scan is messed up for 17.5 oz they are scanning it up as 26 oz on receipt. what fraud!
I would highly suggest you get a general idea of what your total should be before you head to the register. I do it old school where I write the price, jfU, MQs on a piece of paper and then add up the totals. Before I did this, it was nearly impossible for me to figure out whether all my discounts came off on the way to the car. When I pay more than I expected, I automatically know I need to check the receipt carefully. When I figure out the item, I just do a return right then and there.

I usually don't try to challenge them on the prices, jfu or whatever - I just do a plain return. When they ask why, I tell them the online JFU discounts did not come off and I am in a hurry thus I need to return them. I learned to do that after I spent 45 min. on the CS desk while the rep was trying to figure out $10 worth of owed discounts manually on a piece of paper. I was late back to work and it totally flagged me at that store. Never again. I just tell them the price was wrong and I need to head back quickly. They've never questioned that argument.

Having said all that, yes - SFWY prices, receipts, JFU system are all very wonky. CS Reps are hardly ever helpful and it's an overall shot in the dark as to whether your transaction will be perfect. But hang in there - there's plenty of good deals that come from this store............
