Thread Details

The PUBLIX thread is IMHO the best grocery store thread around heart
Here's a little chat area for us all to share info, recipes, rant's, raves and whatever else we want without clogging up the regular weekly deals thread for PUBLIX. If we want to share super deals we find in other stores or whatnot that's ok too heart

I think we all are such a great family that it's a good to have our own special place Grouphug

You can post basically anything you like in here but let's keep deals info in the actual PUBLIX thread. All are welcome and basically no major rules except be kind and courteous of other's and treat each other with respect. Other than that let's all have some fun! Also you don't have to shop at PUBLIX to share in the chat or whatnot... we like everyone.

uggh... I'm so upset with myself (and later my cashier).

I decided to pull my Jimmy Dean's Delights Rain check out and do a $50 purchase to use my competitor $5 off $50 (only Q they put out). I was $3.18 cents short, and my cashier wouldn't just ring 2 more of something I bought to make it to $50 and let me get them after I paid.

I know what happened. I counted the Yoplait 100 Calorie Greek as I saw them, but then they didn't have flavors I would bring home. James went to check and see if they had any more for me, but nope.. Truck comes in between 3 and 6 tonight.

ETA: I may go back later tonight, when after the truck comes in and see if someone I know better is at the service desk and see if I can work it out.

ETA2: I called to see if the truck came in. It did, but as I was talking to the customer service manager, I mentioned I wrote up a praise for James in dairy on Publix.com tonight, as he has tried to help me three different times by checking in the back. Anyway, she said I could come back tomorrow and she'd take care of me to use my $5 off $50 competitor coupon.

Is anybody else ticked off that the Public coupons on Ebay are hard to find due to all the Winn-Dixie junk? My Publix does not accept Winn-Dixie coupons, because they are not a local competitor. Yet on Ebay the Winn-Dixie coupons all have "Use at Publix" added to the subject line, so any search for Publix coupons brings up all that junk. I used to buy $5 off $50 (Publix) coupons on Ebay, but now I don't bother because it takes too much time sorting through all the Winn-Dixie stuff.

when you do your search, do Publix -Winn and it will take out anything with Winn in the title.

Anyone have a suggestion for an easy and cheap potluck lunch item to take into work? I've looked at all my Pinterest recipes, but none are really sticking out. I need it to stay good from the time I leave for the gym (5am) until lunch at noon.

The way I see it
every life is a pile of good things and bad things.
The good things don’t always soften the bad things
but vice versa
the bad things don’t necessarily spoil the good things
and make them unimportant

I heart this one! Always a hit--just add tortilla chips.

Seven Layer Dip I [allrecipes.com]

1 1/2 pounds ground beef

1 (16 ounce) can refried beans

4 cups shredded Cheddar-Monterey Jack cheese blend

1 (8 ounce) container sour cream

1 cup guacamole

1 cup salsa

1 (2.25 ounce) can black olives, chopped

1/2 cup chopped tomatoes

1/2 cup chopped green onions

1. In a large skillet, brown ground beef. Set aside to drain and cool to room temperature.
Spread the beans into the bottom of a 9x13 inch serving tray that is about 1 1/2 inches deep.

2. Sprinkle 2 cups of shredded cheese on top of beans. Sprinkle beef on top of cheese. Spread sour cream very slowly on top of beef. Spread guacamole on top of sour cream. Pour salsa over guacamole and spread evenly. Sprinkle remaining shredded cheese. Sprinkle black olives, tomatoes, and green onions on top.

3. You can serve this dish immediately, or refrigerate it over night and serve cold. I think it tastes better at room temperature.

I would do a pasta salad. You can boil any pasta of your choice, I do cheese tortellini or Campanella pasta, add in meats of your choice, I like genoa salami, ham capicola, or pepperoni, could even do chicken for a lighter dish. Add in veggies of your choosing, peppers, onions, tomatoes, roasted peppers, grilled zucchini, combos are endless. Toss it together with your favorite vinaigrette or use Good Seasons, snip in some fresh herbs, I like basil, and you are good to go!

I kept meaning to see about getting some of these coupons since I ran out of the ones I had. Here's what I found weird...I just bought some and the auction says they are coming from Houston, TX....but, when I went to pay for them with Paypal (and wanted to use my credit card), I was informed that if I used my credit card for this international transaction, I'd likely get charged fees for the money exchange. Huh?! International Transaction??? Looked at the email I received after the auction and the seller is in Canada!

Texas and Canada - two places I wouldn't expect to see a Winn Dixie!

Gosh! I have 5 Florida Ultimate books that expire June 2013 that I would sell for what I purchased for. $2.50 each. I am in the Jax area too.

Seems to me the cost of the money exchange should have been factored into the Ebay price somehow.

Coupon sellers get their stuff from all over--the internet, other friends, other sellers. You have to be careful because not all coupons are legit and some turn out to be shoddy copies that will raise eyebrows at the cash register. Then there are these sellers that think they know the store policy of every Publix in North America. They are so confident their Winn-Dixie coupon will be accepted. I look forward to when they get negative feedback and have to process returns from an irate buyer. Fortunately I check store policy myself before buying, but not all buyers will bother to do that.

Well, the added fee is what paypal is telling me that my credit card would charge me if I used it to pay for the auction...so, can't really figure that into the cost (and there is no additional fee if you pay via your checking account or paypal funds). Just found it odd that this was an international transaction!

My store will definitely take WD coupons but now you have me worried that she's selling copies! Guess I'll see in a couple of days.

I don't know those books...aren't you going to use the WD coupons at Publix? That's the only coupon I'd want out of the books...

I do use them at Publix and WD but I would sell the books whole, (or just the coupons if that's all you want, it would make it easier to mail). I just think I have more than I can use before the June expiration date.

How many bananas constitutes a "bunch"? I found a tearpad for Save $0.75/2 Dasani Water (20oz or 1L I believe) wyb a "bunch" of bananas. (Semantics could be wrong, I'm going off memory - my coupon is on my desk and I'm sitting on the couch with an ice pack on my foot).

Is 3 bananas a "bunch"??

ETA: The water is 10/$10

I would consider 3 a bunch.

That coupon also says, "Or any produce"
so even a jalapeno would do the trick Wink
Which is much cheaper than 3 bananas
and if you were using it towards the "Save $1.50 off bananas WYB buy 2 GM Cereals....You are much better off buy 1 banana for that and a smaller item for the Dasani coupon.
If you were not using it for that, I will go in corner and shut my font up Wink
