yep ratshack is the only place I know of.

Tooling around with electronics isn't as popular a hobby as it used to be, say 30 years ago.

You might search for an electronics/parts surplus store near you. There used to be a place called R-Vac near me when I lived in Orange Count, CA. It looked like Aladdin's cave but fill of electronics instead of treasure. Otherwise, Radio Shack is all I am aware of too.

It's kind of hard to recommend a local place to you if we dont know where "local" is to you. . . . . .

As far as online I have had great luck with digi-key being very fast even with standard shipping.

Not sure if you are close to these:

mouser.com
digikey.com
farnell.com

Try Digikey.com. They're often cheaper than Farnell (Newark) and stock more varieties too.

I was going to suggest Fry's but I KNOW there are none of those up here (sadly).

However http://www.abelelectronics.com/ is in St. Clair Shores - that'll work for you.

What hits did you get when you Googled the name of your city and "electronics supplies"?

Ask students studying electronics at local colleges, DeVry, ITT Tech, etc., or ham radio operators. Also the paper version of the Yellow Pages can be a lot better than online directories, but you may have to phone almost every listing to find sources. There may be 1-2 electronics supplies still hanging on until the owners sell their property for retirement.

Check NTE for dealers in your area. NTE sells substitute semiconductors.

Some mail order dealers don't charge much for shipping, and their prices can be low enough that you'll end up paying less, even on a small order.

Have you tried:

All Electronics
Marlin P. Jones
JDR Microdevices
Jameco
B & D Enterprises
Circuit Specialists
Electronics Gold Mine

it's kind of hard to beat a penny...for light parts like those, the shipping is even lower
than US shops & I usually get my order within 2-3 weeks

damn, where did all those mom & pop electronic shops go....
