Help setting up Tomato USB on ASUS WL500GP V2

Hi,

I have finally given up to setup the Tomato on my ASUS WL-500GP V2.

Initially, when I purchased it, i was able to flash it to Mini/Mega and then Tomato. But one day, I was playing around and flashed it wirelessly and couldn't use with Tomato, went back to Mega Firmware after doing so much research and hard resetting the router with 30-30-30 method and was hoping that I would be able to set it up to Tomato, but for whatever reason, when I flash the router with TomatoUSB either using ASUS firmware restoration utility or TFTP utility for windows, it doesnt work. It just doesn't open up the 192.168.1.1 or doesn't broadcast.

Must be something stupid I am doing, but can't get it to work for the life of me.

Please give me any link or info which I can follow and set it up with Tomato.

TIA.

Are you using one of the 2.4 builds?

There's your problem. You need either 2.6 w/ R1 (not R2), OR, 2.4. I prefer the latter, it's more stable and 2.6 doesn't buy you much anyway.

Thank you for your reply, yes, first time I used R1, but I read somewhere that R2 is compatible, so, used that, will try with R1 now.

Thanx Again.

Can you please tell me how to flash the Asus WL-500gP V2 router with Tomato ? I am a newbie at it, but based on everything I hear, I would like to do it. Any step by step direction (including the correct files) would help much. Thank you in advance.

Principles are identical for virtually any ASUS router. Just make sure you use the correct build.

I recommend the K26 builds (you'll want the R1 version if you do, NOT R2), or you could use the older K24 builds. Whether K26 or K24, any edition (which determines the features supported) will work, your choice.

FWIW, I'm using the "Tomato Firmware v1.28.9054 MIPSR1-beta K26 USB vpn3.6 [sourceforge.net]" build w/ mine. That pretty much includes everything available.

Set this up today using DD-wrt (latest revisions available). It's working like a champ!

Set up two SSID networks using different IP addresses with encryption. Stoked!

(I haven't tested USB yet, but it's all GUI from what I see.) I have noticed there is a timer bug and wonder if this exists in TomatoUSB for those using it.
