I just went off on someone on FB

Their post- WOW! not only free internet, but also free computers! i've seen where they have new 'low income, government assisted' cell phone plans, too. why work for those luxuries???

My comment back-
Low Income Government Assisted cell phone plans? Oh you mean the ones that offer 50 minutes a month to people that can't afford home phones which are twice the price of any cell phone plan on the market? Yeah.
People that work need assistance too, it's not always just freeloaders. Consumers drive the price of living up way more than the government does, but when someone working full time can't afford to get by these days then what are you supposed to do?
Someone working full time at min. wage is making less than $14k a year before taxes, throw in the need for a vehicle, housing, electric, gas, water and food, medicine and toiletries needed to survive. That leaves almost nothing after that.
The opposition isn't to those that need it. It's a great asset to those seriously struggling to make a living and actually trying to make their way in the world. I don't know if it's because you live up in Marietta, or what, but I think you'd have a different opinion if you lived on the south side of Atlanta.

There are plenty of people that do nothing but live off of the welfare system, and use that money to buy stupid shit when they could be out looking for a decent job. You know, I understand that times are tough and that public assistance is necessary. My dad was laid off, and was on unemployment until he got back to work (not the same thing, but pretty close). My feeling is that welfare should only be a temporary thing, while there are people that live off of it entirely. I don't mind my money going to help a hard-working family make ends meet. I do mind this entitlement mentality that is sweeping across the current generation.

I'm also not sure where you get that someone working minimum wage makes less than $14k a year... Federal minimum wage would garner $14,500 a year, with two weeks off. They'd get most of the taxes back the next year because of credits and deductions.

Also, it could be said that this recession was driven by this entitlement mentality. People just had to have these nice houses they couldn't afford, and the bubble burst when all of a sudden it caught up to them. It's a dangerous game, and I'm a big proponent of reforming the welfare and food stamp system.

I've always been told to calculate pay at 48 weeks a year, which would put you just under $14k... even yet $500 isn't a huge difference.

and it was neither here nor there, it's just the same girl that has thrown the same argument around at least 5 times on facebook. Last time it was how food stamps are of the debil. She's an I'm entitled to stay at home because daycares will ruin my child and my husband has to work out of town to support my lifestyle kind of person and she puts down people often. I just got sick of it.

Kinda depends on what sort of gathering you're having.
We are having 2 friends in from California for about 4 hours until the girls' parents come in. So I am going to cook, and 2 of our local friends are coming over as well. Very casual. 6 people.

Something in a red or white wine sauce with shrooms Smilie so chicken or pork usually go well with that...and garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli.

Oh now I'm hungry.
Hmm. I am rusty on my sauces but I do have some white wine and I could have another go at it. I make killer mashed potatoes. Scratchchin

Tacos and then have all the fixings in little bowls so they can make them how they want. drool

And cookies for dessert Eat
laugh out loud I made these tostadas the other night. I was going to take the corn tortillas and make them into tacos and fry them, but they kept cracking so I went the easy way out on it. I have a bit of leftover ground pork (seasoned) and some mango salsa I made. I am thinking of just throwing that into a quesadilla tomorrow for dinner to not waste leftovers.

Tonight I am just going to make a quick tuna pasta. I have lots of tuna and some veg, so it seemed like the most logical thing to do.

I was thinking of making blueberry tiramisu for dessert on Saturday.
