Do you think my 42" TV Stand would hold a 50" TV

It says it's for 42" but max weight is 95 lbs. The 50" would be wider than the stand but well under the 95 lb limit, do you think this would be ok?

the width should not be an issue unless the base is bigger then then stand. I bet they say 42" max so people dont bump it from the side and knock the tv over (they will hit the stand instead).

TV's are getting thinner and lighter all the time. Weight would be my #1 concern and then Mrbobhcrhs would probably be my second. A link to the stand you have would be helpful probably.

It will be fine. Probably ~3 inches of TV overhang on each side. 54 lbs should't sag that top shelf. GTG.

I see no reason why it would not work, but you may want to check it off the wall to see if you have enough room so you don't have to worry about knocking it off with only a slight touch.

weight is the primary concern BUT the larger the TV the more prone it may be to tipping on a base made for a smaller unit - the CG will be higher.

My 63" plasma is on a wall mount designed for "up to 59" " TV's but the weight rating is like 150 lbs and the TV is only 80 or so. No problems.

That'd be the base of the TV needing to be large enough, not the TV stand furniture.

Well I was going to say they usually over-engineer this stuff, but if it's Walmart... jk.

That looks like an inch thick piece of wood there, your TV will be fine. The size ratings for TV stands are likely so a consumer doesn't get pissed that their TV overhangs by 12 inches as opposed to a weight limitation.

Just warning ya though, for $50 it's probably particle board covered with fake veneer.
