L.A. Noire: The Collected Stories is a free ebook published by Rockstar Games in conjunction with the release of the L.A. Noire video game. From their website:

"In honor of L.A. Noire, Rockstar Games and Mulholland Books have teamed up to create a collection of short stories that celebrate detective fiction and the genre's contemporary masters. Readers will enjoy eight original short fiction stories, many of which revisit the characters and cases in the game, providing a new spin to tell the tales of emotionally torn protagonists, depraved schemers and ill-fated victims."

With original short fiction selections from an esteemed, and award-winning company of authors Lawrence Block, Duane Swierczynski, Joe R. Lansdale, Jonathan Santlofer, Joyce Carol Oates, Francine Prose, Megan Abbott, and Andrew Vachss, these stories expand upon the world of L.A. Noire. Many of these stories revisit characters and cases from the game itself, and provide a new spin on infamous headlines from the 1940s.

"To celebrate the release of L.A. Noire: The Collected Stories, we are offering the complete anthology of all eight complete works, and each original cover illustration, as a completely free download at the Amazon, iTunes and Barnes & Noble eBook stores. This limited-time freebie also applies to the fans who pre-ordered the collection, and will be extended to anyone who orders between now and June 19th (after June 19th the price will be $0.99)."

This is a limited time offer, and the book is free only until Sunday, June 19th, 2011. Whether you like the video game, are just a fan of these top-flight authors, or enjoy the detective fiction genre in general, this is a good ebook for you, at a great price. Cool
