Thanks, those calcs were right on for what I'm getting. Kind of shocked at how low the ppd is, all things considered. I'm used to running a bunch of gpus and getting more ppd than this. It's an interesting test, but I can't keep it up.

Well, after finally getting my main rig back up and running, it sparked my interest in folding again. I found a bunch of spare parts and put together an x3 rig. Based on early estimates, looks like it will produce
4k - 5k PPD. Not a ton of points, but that should be enough to get my weekly total around
110K - 120K a week between the 2 machines. It's gonna be a warm summer.

I am not using my Radeon 6850 to fold with. Based on what I have read, using that card will take away one core from the CPU.
So I'm thinking about pulling out the 6850 and ordering a GTX 560 Ti. Seems to be a sweet spot between ppd and cost. Any suggestions or things to watch out for using this card?
Looks like the card sells for around $125 - $150.
TIA for any advice on this card.

I'm just getting back in to folding, but i heard that ATI cards don't fold nearly as well Nvidia, so you should be golden with the 560 Ti. I was folding with a GTX 460 for a couple days, but then the fan started getting wacky on me so I stopped. If you can get the 560 Ti for around $125-150, that's a great deal! They usually sell for over $200 new from what I've seen.

BTW, I've been trying to press my old Q6600 system into service for SMP folding, but I'm getting extremely low PPD from it. Something has to be wrong. I have it OC'd to 2.88GHz and I'm using all 4 cores for folding yet it only gets about 1/3rd the PPD as two old dual-core E6400 desktops running at 2.13GHz.

I haven't been folding in months since the old fatty PS3 fan started getting noisy, the ol' Athlon desktop was putting up horrible numbers, and the old dual Opteron at work starting having stability issues. But I did snag one of those "free" OVH servers and got it folding within a couple minutes just now. They want 'em burned in, and this is a great way to put a load on them!

Just installed the client, but I'm finding a lot of errors in the log.
http://pastebin.com/hFK5hSFz

Also, is there a way I can limit its CPU utilization? My computer gets too hot if it's running at 100% for awhile.

Working better now:

Would progress be lost if I shutdown or put my computer in sleep mode?

I've been working on a laptop for work the last 3-4 months. I walked into the desktop area and saw a workstation not being used. Asked if I could use it alongside the laptop, they said sure. It's a dual xeon 8 cores / 16 threads! 26k ppd plus a quadro pulling another 8k! Happy day, finally back folding!

Also congrats to the team, we just passed 300mil points!

Just use one less core via smp setting.

The V7 client does have a screen where there is a slider to control CPU usage. From within V7, with the client running, click on the "Configure" button on the top menu and then the "Advanced" tab.

you can earn up to 10 evga bucks per month

"Points per month: EVGA bucks earned

350,000: 5 EVGA Bucks (for a total of 10)
150,000: 5 EVGA Bucks"
1 Evga buck= $1. when you buy something from them these bucks can be used toward your purchase. basically you can earn $120 a year that can be applied to the purchase of a new card from evga.

Tanner2 used to be a top folder with slickdeals and now he folds for evga.

more info about it here http://www.evga.com/folding/promo.asp
