Thread Details

i have 2 xbox 360's both not working (1 is disk read error, 1 is E74) i've spent many hours trying different troubleshooting methods and nothing has worked, the next step would be to open up the 360 and replace parts, which doesn't make sense because I already have a new xbox so I don't need these to work, just don't want to deal with the headache anymore.

I am in NYC and I want to just take them to a store and get cash or store credit. Anyone know any places that do this?

Ebay wouldn't really be worth the trouble, after shipping fees and taxes i'd end up with close to nothing and craigslist scares me. (I realize I am being finicky, sorry)

I don't want this to seem like a rant against microsoft either, I had both these xbox's for over 3 years and played thousands of hours on them. I got more than my moneys worth. Love MS and Xbox

If you are unwilling to deal with people on CL or eBay, your options are pretty much not there. I usually just told people what was wrong with them and threw them on CL.

They were usually gone within a day or 2, but they may be harder to sell now that the slims have dropped in price.

I'd personally just swap the disc tray from the E74 into the other console...that will EASILY give you one working console and one console for parts.

No store will give you ANYTHING for the parts...you'd HAVE to take that to craigslist and maybe get $20 for it. Since it doesn't really mean much to you, could could always just post where it is and leave it on the corner somewhere...

The working one might get you $20 at Gamestop, they do have a +$50 offer on all PS3 and Xbox 360 going until Christmas. I do not know if they would turn it away because the warranty sticker was broken though (and it would have to be broken if you got it working)

Not true--all you need is a hair dryer and a small, flat head screwdriver and you can peel the sticker off without breaking the seal.

OP: I'd suggest extracting the drive key from the console that is giving you the disc read error and swap it out with a drive that works (maybe you'll luck out and your red ringed console will have a matching drive).

You can sell it as a whole for around $40 on Craigslist or sell the drive for ~$20-$25 on eBay.

I meant the optical drive. X360 hard drives are nearly worthless these days.

unless its a lite-on, its not really going to be worth much either. I have been out of the scene for a while but iirc only lite-on drives are able to play the latest batch of games.

Too bad you don't live in Kansas. I would buy the disk error one off of you. I would suggest doing what "prozac4312" said. Extract the key off the disk error one and spoof it onto a replacement drive. You might be able to spoof it to the drive xbox with E74 error and use that .
