I was going to use my mothers e-mail address to take advantage of this but I noticed the website[microsoftstore.com] now says they will verify student status. I was able to use my girlfriend's e-mail address before because she was a nurse at a medical university so she had a .edu email address for being an employee instead of a student. Do they actually verify that you are a student or just that your .edu email is for a student?
edit: what does windows 7 pro have that home premium does not have?
are there any deals going on again for a 3-pack of windows 7 home premium for $100 or less? the latest deal I found was from back in the beginning of Dec and is now up to $166 from amazon.
They verify based on which .edu address you have - if it's a known school to MS (just about all accredited universities), then you're good. Addresses from smaller schools will be rejected & then there's some verification process you have to do (no idea what this entails).
Pro has XP mode; ability to backup / restore over a network & ability to join domains.
ah ok. well how often do those 3-user packs come along at $100 then? was that a rare occurrence?
yeah, that was an initial special MS made available when Win 7 launched. It came back for a short while, I picked one up on it's last clearance markdown at Office Depot for $15, none left at any other store around at the time...
Sorry for the late reply, apparently I'm not notified of replies to threads...
