You need to buy their $15 sim though probably starting Feb 7.

Previously, you had to buy a Nokia smartphone, do a sim swap, keep the Nokia, and not tell Straight Talk. Now, you do not need to do that anymore. Plus, the Nokia only worked on AT&T towers. Looks like Straight Talk will have a sim for AT&T and one for T-Mobile. What sim they give you is probably based on the coverage in your area.

http://www.straighttalksim.com/shop.php

Updated: Now that it is passed Feb 7, we know that you select the sim: an At&t, T-Mobile, or Unlocked. Blackberry, or branded TracFone, SafeLink, NET10 or Straight Talk phones are not supported. Hence, your At&t or T-Mobile phone does not have to be unlocked.

When people did the sim swap previously, they tried to stay within 100mb per day and 2gb for the month. Some people have said that they have used more than that amount without issue. Whether this amount changes because there will now officially have more data intensive phones on the network remains to be seen. None of the mvno's are truly unlimited anyway and put such terms in their agreement because they do not want abusers.

Straight Talk and Net10 are owned by América Móvil. Straight Talk is for Walmart. Net10 is for other retailers. Do you get anything more by paying $5 more to Net10 for their $50 unlimited plan? Most likely not. Walmart itself does not sell the sim. You must purchase this online.

As far a roaming goes, there was limited roaming using the sim swap. I expect this to be the same but will wait for reports.

If you have an At&t phone and get a sim, then it seems like it is the same speed as the sim swap. Not sure what happens with a T-Mobile sim yet, because most T-Mobile phones do not support 850 and 1900 bands in 3g.

Note that the sim only works with the $45 Unlimited Plan. You cannot use the sim + your own gsm phone on any of Straight Talk's other plans. For the other plans, you need to purchase a Straight Talk phone.

Looks like T-Mobile phones will get 3g with this plan after all. It might be that the 850 and 1900 reference is directed at unlocked phones owners as Straight Talk might be sending those people the sim for At&t phones.

Confirmed:

    http://consumerist.com/2013/07/30...ata-plans/
The plaintiffs in the suit detailed how the companies slowed their speed of service or cut it off it altogether and then blamed the subscribers for misusing of the service. The plaintiffs David Hansel, Edward Tooley and Christopher Valdez filed their claims on behalf of others, and allege breach of contract, breach of covenant of good faith and fair dealing, unjust enrichment, and violations of Florida's Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act, California's Unfair Competition Law and California's Consumer Legal Remedies Act.

    In addition, ........
"Defendants terminated customers' data at the behest of their wireless network partners when a particular cell tower is at or near data capacity, regardless of whether that customer's data usage has exceeded defendants' secret data usage limits," the complaint states.

ST Terms and Conditions

http://www.straighttalk.com/terms

A must read, as not all services (like streaming video) are permitted.

Need to remember this is not truly Unlimited Data!!! - NO hard limit has been established for data when using ST. However, 1 to 2gb is the general rule of thumb. After you reach that limit, they may lock or cancel your service.

iPhone Users Note

UNLOCKED means you can use your iphone on carriers other than Straight Talk/AT&T, like TMobile, Simple Mobile etc. To use your AT&T iPhone on Straight Talk/AT&T, you DO NOT need it to be UNLOCKED.
To get native MMS/picture messaging working the phone has to only be JAILBROKEN. Read carefully, UNLOCKED and JAILBROKEN are 2 DIFFERENT things.
Any iPhone up to ios 5.0.1 can be JAILBROKEN. This being said, any LOCKED or UNLOCKED AT&T iPhone can be used with the Straight Talk/AT&T sim. Ideally, buy the AT&T sim, as it supports 3G, while the tmobile sim will limit your speeds to 2.5G edge.
LOCKED or UNLOCKED GSM/AT&T Iphone users that live in an AT&T coverage area, order the "AT&T Compatible Phone" regular or micro sim

I have ST for about 5 months now with iphone 4 on ATT ST, data has been getting slow and now I have no data! I'm in the DFW area and have stayed below the 200MB/day and never go over 2GB in a month, usually 1.5GB. I have the correct APN settings, have turned off and on and reput the correct apn setting again but still no data... Text and voice still works, anybody know whats going on?

If you do some google search, someone mention about the undocumented limit is as low as 100MB/day. But the true is if you are in a crowded area, they can slow you down when you hit a much lower limit. If you read their terms and conditions, they can pretty much do anything as long as "(1) appear likely to generate abnormally high call volumes or Mobile Web Access and data usage and/or abnormally long average call lengths or Mobile Web Access and data usage as compared to the usage of other Straight Talk customers; (2) may be harmful, disruptive, or interfere with the Carrier's network or the Carrier's ability to provide service to other customers."
Meaning if you are the top 10% user in term of data usage, they can pretty much do anything they want to you.

Lame, I ended up talking the sim card out and reinserted and the data came back but it is still painfully slow. Going to end up calling them to get me unthrottled

i can get a AT&T HTC inspire 4g for about $80, good deal? I'm a bit worried about throttling, but I'm not a very heavy data user (yet) because I haven't had a smartphone in like 2 years. I know the phone does HSPA+ speeds, as my friend used it on AT&T for awhile and always displayed a H+ at the top of the screen.

Thinking either this Inspire on ST, or getting another virgin mobile phone like Optimus Elite or HTC One S.

Decisions decisions

That happens to me on my iPhone 4 that's on AT&T I have lousy service where I am so I think it's just a result of having no service at the time of a call coming in.

Anyone have any info on data being messed up on Straight Talk ATT with the iPhone? Found some random stuff on the internet but nothing definitive. Data is a mess on my wife's iPhone for the last week or two and she is buging the hell out of me. I sent a CS email to ST but they have not responded.

Also it isn't the phones setting, they are fine.

No problems at all on my ST AT&T android. IN fact I'm getting on average about three times the d/l speed of my wife's unlimited Verizon phone from anywhere I've checked between here (southeast TN) and Atlanta.

edit: I've also had similar results compared to my Verizon iPhone 4S. AT&T has beat it on d/l speed everytime.
