New computer--Best Buy or Office Depot.

3,603 1,525 February 9, 2012 at 12:59 PM
I'm trading in some reward points for $500 worth for gift cards. I'm going to buy a computer with the cards. The only problem is I can only get cards for either Best Buy or Office Depot. I plan to buy my laptop from one of these places. Which place is best for getting a better deal? No other opinions on any other places please, just these 2. I don't know which has better deals. I'm looking at spending only about 400-500, but i also want the best bang for my buck. amd? i3? intel? hp?, dell? toshiba? which is a better brand?

please help would be great. this is not going to be a gaming laptop. I just need something for basic usage.

Best buy ! By far no comparison. But you want to buy from Best But online! Better prices.

Those computers that you put a link for looked from what I seen out dated. I hate to tell you this ! But BJ's has the best deal's I seen on lap tops for what you get. That ThinkPad is almost the same as what I am using right now and I paid $550 about 7 months ago. Once again you can buy direct from Lenova. So with your discount you would get that almost for free? Is that right?

Are you talking to me?

IF so, the OP said he can only get the pc at BB and OD. Its widely known on this forum you can get good prices on outlets everyday. Read between the lines.

Whatever deal you find (lets say, Staples or Amazon), price match it to Bestbuy. They have a very nice policy for price matching.

Make sure you are getting the laptop that you want. Bestbuy sometimes have bad return policy. So make sure that you choose the you want to use to last more than 3 years.

i checked out office depots return policy. it says that laptops are non returnable if they are opened, you can only exchange them.

If you need something for basic usage than get a cheapie from Craig's list. Than you can by something else with your points.

i hvae noticed alot of times best buy and other places purposely carry slightly different computers so they dont have to price match. for example staples might sell a laptop model #ABC123 then bestbuy will carry the same exact computer except theirs is model #ABC123L so they can say its a different computer. i have seen numerous computer at best buy that have best buy unique serial numbers.

that doesnt sound very bad as long as you know what laptop you want the only reason you would need to return it would be if something was wrong and you neede a new one.

If it's an L with the same/worse specs, the manager should take care of you. In this case, call a location that you don't plan on going to and see what they say, then move on from there.
