How much do you guys pay for getting a standard dress shirt cleaned/pressed at the cleaners? I live in los angeles and a local place charges $2.50. None of my shirts of dry-clean only so I think what they do is wash and they press/iron.

If the clothes aren't dry clean only, why pay them for anything?

I pay ~$2/shirt. I am always looking for a truly "no starch" place but they all use something they spray on the shirt to make it easier to iron, and that makes the shirt feel stiff. To get a true "no starch" hand-ironed shirt is probably $4-5/shirt. By the way, there are an incredible number of people who believe shirts are "dry cleaned" at the cleaners. Dry cleaning a shirt is more like $7 bucks.

I wash and steam mine at home -- the cleaners always seem to starch when I don't want it and I end up with the terrible "shiny" collar, ruining my good shirts. So much cheaper and easier to learn to do it (correctly) yourself!

costs $1.50 to launder (wash and press) my shirts. I would prefer to do my own shirts, but for me, it's well worth the time and price to have them done by someone other than me or the wife (i have 2 small daughters). boston, area

I called a bunch of places for Dh's shirts (15 or so) and the lowest price I found in my area for 'press only' (they don't wash them, just wet them and iron/starch them) is $1.05 on a hanger and $1.30 for a box. Light starch.

*shrug* Dh travels for work and he is not great with the iron. So...after trying many things, this is what we've got going on that works for us.
