Thread to discuss movies of any type and date, but perhaps with more focus on recent ones in the past couple years.

Please be courteous to others when discussing a fairly recent movie with unexpected plot elements or endings, and always spoiler tag comments that could ruin the story for anyone who hasn't seen the movie yet. When trying to decide whether or not to tag something, please err on the side of caution since even the mention that a certain movie has a twist (without divulging what it is) could end up being a mini-spoiler itself.

In case you don't already know how, you can spoiler tag any block of text with the following tags:

this tag goes at the end of the hidden text ~~~~>
this tag goes at the beginning of the hidden text ~~~~>
saw three movies over the weekend (all via Redbox):

Drive, Ides of March & Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Drive started out so good IMO but it felt a bit protracted. Silly in some instances but overall ok.

Ides of March was okay. I liked the way it ended. Kind of like a "show must go on" type deal despite the "cost".

Planet of the Apes was decent too.

Movies I've recently seen:

Drive (Stylistic movie about a getaway driver with an 80's feel to it. Decent enough i guess. Reminded me a bit of Scarface, but nowhere near as good.)
Take Shelter (Different from anything I've seen in a while. Psychological thriller with decent suspense. I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would)
50/50 (Dramedy with a few good laughs. Overall decent movie despite my dislike for the main actors.)
Paranormal Activity 3 (More of the same. Which is to say, awful formulaic crap.)
Moneyball (Great movie if you like baseball. Then again, some MLB fans will nitpick a few things.)
Tucker & Dale vs Evil (Good unexpected comedy that barely anyone has heard about. A bit of a parody on the teenage cabin horror flicks.)

I really enjoyed Moneyball the movie and I read the book years ago. That book and Fantasy Land is what brought me into the world of sabremetrics and changed the way I play fantasy baseball.

I'd just say...maybe we should note how you saw the movie...to make it easier to find. if it is on Netflix vs. just rental DVD vs. in the Theater still.

We have Planet of the Apes coming in the mail from Blockbuster (60 day trial of their 3 Out @ a Time Mailer service w/ free returns to the store. Could get about 6 movies a week if needed).

Tower Heist is out for rent now, saw that in the theater...pretty lame.

On the way now:
Horrible Bosses (2011)--opinions?
One Day (2011)--no idea...wife added it
Apollo 18 (2011) - Really excited about that, hopefully it doesn't blow...

I edited my post. My rentals were all via Redbox.

Horrible Bosses was wack IMO. Had some moments but overall a waste of time.

I saw horrible bosses recently, but forgot to add it to my list. I wasn't crazy about it. I laughed at a couple funny parts here and there but for a movie that's driven solely by comedy, i thought it was pretty weak. Some of my friends loved it though.

I just watched "The Double" and thought it was just ok. A decent story and some interesting action scenes, but I wouldn't really recommend it.

Also, I watched the first 20 minutes of "The Help" and I just ended up wanting to have a maid. White, black, Asian, doesn't matter. Apparently my wife says that I missed the point of the movie. Whatever.

Drive - Meh, after how much a lot of my friends talked it up, I thought it was okay at best

50/50 - Pretty good but it wasn't as touching or funny as I thought it would be

Horrible Bosses - Decent but definitely forgettable. Was kinda surprised how dirty it was

MI4 Ghost Protocol - I hate Tom Cruise but damn this was an awesome movie. Must see if you like action movies IMO

Margin Call - Really enjoyed this one personally but I could see how people could easily dislike it as well. Movie about an imaginary investment firm making moves before the 2008 financial crisis

Kyle: Dude! I almost thought those Afghani kids talked you into not liking America.
Stan: No, dude. America may have some problems, but it's our home. Our team. And if you don't wanna root for your team, then you should get the hell out of the stadium.
Kyle: Yeah.
Stan: <salutes the American flag> Go America.
Kyle: <salutes> Go America...
Stan: Go Broncos
Kyle: Yeah go Broncos.
Cartman: Yeah...

I want to see Act of Valor. Got terrible critic reviews but decent audience reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. One of my friends saw it and said that if you expected a plot, you will be sorely disappointed. But if you are just in it for the action, it is pretty good. They apparently used real bullets during filming o__o.
