Thread Details

Last Edited by godfather927 February 27, 2012 at 11:54 AM
Thread to discuss movies of any type and date, but perhaps with more focus on recent ones in the past couple years.

Please be courteous to others when discussing a fairly recent movie with unexpected plot elements or endings, and always spoiler tag comments that could ruin the story for anyone who hasn't seen the movie yet. When trying to decide whether or not to tag something, please err on the side of caution since even the mention that a certain movie has a twist (without divulging what it is) could end up being a mini-spoiler itself.

In case you don't already know how, you can spoiler tag any block of text with the following tags:

this tag goes at the end of the hidden text ~~~~>
this tag goes at the beginning of the hidden text ~~~~>
I'll give you that exception to Bats. It was def waaay over the top. I wonder if his throat got all raw & scratchy from talking scratchy?

American Psycho
Terminator Salvation (I really liked this one, especially since Sam Worthington was in it, he's really good, too IMO.)

The Machinist... for those that saw it, christ that dude got rail thin for the part. Like super anorexic thin. To see him get skinny as fark for that part (as well as Dickie in The Fighter) then to bounce back and be stacked as hell for his next part. People like that amaze me. I mean in that movie The Machinist, when he was cutting, he had to be like IM KILLING MYSELF! Dude is dedicated for sure.

Saw that a couple years back, that movie is wild. I hardly recognized him.
Yeah that move was messed up for sure. For those that don't know what they're talking about:

I think he did it by drinking shit tons of water, eating an apple a day, and drinking one cup of coffee until he lost 63 pounds to drop down to 120lbs. He then put it all back on, and then some, to star in Batman Begins a year later.

Achievements are not for the meek, it is better to forfeit inheritance of the earth so that the mighty may look upon my gamerscore, and despair. Achievements are for men who dream; men who dare; men who achieve! Men who carve out entire galaxies with nothing more than nimble cheetos-dusted fingers and their wits, and in our leisurely twilight days we shall sit by softly flickering fires with our descendants recounting the tales of these unimaginable glories.

It was decent. Based on a true story. Nothing terribly memorable or any noteworthy scenes though.

He gets more attention that way. I think the only reason people watch the machinist is to see the freak show.

I watched The Hobbit this weekend. It was long asd hell but pretty good. Def 100% Peter Jackson. I love the cinimatography of the Tolkien movies. Looking forward to the next one.

Finally got a chance to catch up on some oscar movies. Saw Argo and Life of Pi.

Argo: Good movie with suspense and some decent humor at times. Not sure why everyone was up in arms over Zero Dark Thrity's lack of historical accuracy when Argo's was far worse. Still made for an entertaining story though, despite the artistic liberties taken. Not sure if I agree that it should've won best picture but oh well.

Life of Pi: This one really caught me by surprise. When I saw the trailers and clips I thought it was some stupid PG-rated family movie about glow in the dark whales and some guy on a boat with a tiger. Thankfully, I got past my preconceived notions and decided to actually watch it. Amazing story and really well made movie. I can definitely see why Lee won for best director after seeing this. Highly recommended to anyone who liked Tim Burton's Big Fish or just anyone who likes a movie that tells a great story, regardless of its content.

Django Unchained - I'm a big fan of Quinton Tarantino films though not all of his movies hit the target and kind of come across as overindulgent and silly (like some Spike Lee movies) but ever so often he not only hits the mark but drills it with both levity, serious tone, and violence and this was definitely one of those movies. It is a long movie but damn if it didn't feel like it once you get absorbed into it.

Saw "42" and would recommend it to the baseball fan. I'd love to see some reviews come out to go through a little bit of it's accuracy. One of the things that I can't help but think about is that with the scenes on the field just HOW accurate is that? The action on the field would have been witness by thousands...but there are too many instances to look up personally, so I hope one reviewer puts together a document that chronicles all of them.

To the not-baseball fan, I think they might still enjoy it...basically, if you liked Remember the Titans...this is the baseball version.

Might go see my 1st 3D movie this weekend. Going to try to go see Jurassic Park. Might also go see Warm Bodies at the dollar theater.
