Android anyone???

626 62 March 6, 2012 at 02:54 PM in Chat
Hi All,

I would like to get viewpoints from those who use Android OS. I have been an Apple person but i'm interested in Android. I would like to know if Android will offer me a different or improved user experience or would you say the differences are subtle and just a matter of taste? Basically, I have an iPad and would like to know if it would be worth my while to get an Android tab.

Thoughts?? And please no flaming, or trolling.....

I own Android devices (tablet and phone) and Windows computers so I might represent the opposing viewpoint to you, "the Apple person". There is not a straight answer to your question obviously. As others have mentioned (both Apple fans and even maybe PC fans who appreciate the Apple aesthetic): you already own an IPad, so why get an Android? Your initial question could benefit from more detail, are you considering based on: curiosity, need, or peer pressure? Are you willing to learn a slightly different mobile OS?

Multiple manufacturers: Android Tabs promise variety in hardware and software builds, as opposed to Apples which all "grow off the same branch". Options like these typically beget innovation and pricing competition both in the initial device and compatible accessories. Upgrades are not tied to Apple's schedule, but generally to market conditions and evolving Android builds.

Openness: Due to the nature of Android, it is inherently more "open." Apps can be had cheap and will often perform double (or triple+) duty, installing on all your Android devices. For instance, most apps I have bought or gotten for free will work on my Android phone or my tablet. It is true that you can also root and mod your android devices far more easily than Apple devices.

If you are using your apple tablet to surf the web, read forums, check email, watch movies....then you may not want to switch "just because" you can or someone told you to. If you are asking because you are considering a cheaper alternative to the IPad 3, then Android alternatives are worth considering.

I personally agree with the poster who is waiting for Windows 8 on a tablet. That is a solution that dynamically changes the tablet landscape from just another mobile device to a more direct interface to traditional desktop workstations.

It started with a discussion on the many ways Android is superior to iOS and WP7.
The brevity of that discussion must be why I missed it.

I figured with a name that included "Jeep" it was pretty self explanatory as to his intellect.

Your parents giving you an allowance doesnt really qualify attending kindergarten as "work".

If you value customization on your phone, then Android might be the platform for you. There is just so much more you can do with the Android phone even without rooting it.

However, if you enjoy browsing and a simple look then the Apple iPhone might be good.

Also the Android market tends to have more apps because the Apple app store is more finicky about the apps they offer.

Downside to most flagship Android phones is the poor battery life. I'm sure Nexus users can testify to that! Doesn't last even close to a day.
