Staples Coupon Thread

1. What's the Staples app?
This is an app from Staples that provides access to your Staples account, as well as Staples rewards account, and provides some useful tools.
You can read more about it here: Linky [staples.com]

2. How can I get it?
Android version is here: Linky [google.com]
iOS version is here: Linky [apple.com]
Any android phone or iPhone will work. In addition, you can install it on iPod Touch, iPad, Android Tablets, or HP TP running Android.

3. What's "check-in"?
When you are in a Staples store, you can click on the "Check in" button, and once your location is determined by the app, you'll be presented with a confirmation, and a coupon will be issued. The coupons state that they expire in 24-48 hours after they are issued, but in reality they can be used until the "real expiration date" (see WiKi for details). Please note that you do NOT need to sign into your Staples and/or Staples rewards account to receive the check in coupons. Coupons are generated once per device every 24 hours if you check in every 24 hours once the previous coupon has expired. The store makes no difference to the process. Multiple store check-ins in the same 24 hours does not get you any more coupons. You get the same one with the same 16 digit code. Since the device number is stored at a Staples server and coupons are per device, multiple devices will give you unique coupons per device.

4. Do I have to be physically in the store to check in?
Luckily, the answer is no. You can "spoof" your location by using certain apps that trick your phone to report specific coordinates. Depending on the app, you can either enter the coordinates of a Staples store or find it on a map and use that to create check in coupons from home/work.
For Android, Fake GPS [google.com] works great, along with few other examples (e.g., Location Spoofer, etc). For iOS devices, please see the WiKi (you need to jail break your iOS device).

5. Can I keep the coupons beyond the 24-48 hour expiration time frame?
Yes. If you take a screen shot of the coupon, you can keep it and use it later. On some Android phones, as well as iOS devices, pressing down power and home (or power and volume down) buttons simultaneously takes a screen shot. For devices that don't have this "built in", there are 3rd party apps.

6. Are the coupons random?
As of now, they seem to follow a certain sequence as outlined in the Wiki.

7. Can I stack these coupons with other app and/or paper coupons?
The % off coupons stack with $ off coupons. If you have 1 app coupon and 1 paper coupon (in either format), it will work "easier" compared to having 2 app coupons, since you are not supposed to have 2 of them at the same time. You can try printing out some of the app coupons to combine them.

8. Can I obtain any other coupons, in addition to the check in coupons, from the app?
The app generates coupons that can be used in store, online or over the phone. You can log into your Staples Rewards account from the app and access your Coupon Wallet and use whatever coupons you may have in there based on their T&Cs (e.g., in store only, online/phone only, etc). Those coupons have nothing to do with the app; they are under your Staples Rewards account and can be accessed from the web interface using a PC or directly from the mobile app.

I wonder how one resets the Staples app to start the coupon sequence from the beginning?
for my CM9 devices, updating to nightly builds used to do the trick. it'd take some time, but I used to let it run overnight, on charger.
And I think we have just the night lol.

I have CM9 running on an HP Touchpad and just do a factory reset. I am wondering about resetting the bluestacks app running the Staples app to reset the sequencce.

So I'm using Bluestacks on several computers and I'm generating a new coupon each day. So it starts with the 25% off shredder one and then 10/75 and now 25% off flash drive. So I know the 10/75 will work, but what about these other ones like the 25% off shredder or 25% off flash drive. Are these working as well or not?

Edit: Just tried all my 10/75 codes and all show as expired now where a few days ago they were showing up as valid only in store. These coupons that start with 2272 and were generated just yesterday and ones generated like a month ago. Anyone else seeing the same now?

Sounds good. Now that only 10/75 and 10/50 is all that is left enticing until 3/1, i am gonna generate a few of these.
I just checked my 10/75 codes online and they all show as expired now whereas yesterday they were showing the valid instore only message when checking them online. I tried the code for one I got on 2/14 and one that I generated like 1 month ago. Both of these start with 2272. Check yours and let me know if they show expired or not.

Have they actually made these coupons expire now after 1 day if we don't use them since I generated the 10/75 ust over 24 hours ago and now it is showing as expired.

Well, that is not good news.

The 2722 that I checked from several days ago show not valid online.

So how come a 2722 generated on 2/14 show expired already? Any ideas?

Expired or redeemed? I know that one of mine that I never used came up as redeemed. So, some thieves out there are at it again.

mrtrance posted in another thread they made a keying error leading to the issue. All is good although I was under the impression keying errors would give an error message other than expired. More like we don't have that code in our system or something like that.

I think you're right... I posted this in the weekly thread, but probably should have posted it here.

I checked a bunch of app coupons yesterday and did find one 10/50 OS that showed as already used (and I don't think I used it this year) and another 10/50 OS that showed up as expired! No idea how that happened. However all the rest that I checked lined up with byrne3's list.

I checked several times and on different laptops as well. I also checked all my receipts. The coupon was generated in April 2012 and hadn't been used. For it to now show redeemed, it must have been used in 2013.

the staples app can generate the same number because it's suppose to be used on the day it is generated, technically we aren't supposed to take a ss and use it later. There is a chance someone else checked in and got the same code.

Kinda rare but it did happen in the past when people were able to generate the breakroom coupons and even sell them online. in the past one of my saved br coupons came up used when i tried to use it, had it saved for about 3 weeks.

I thought that the coupon #s were being generated in sequence. I do not know if the same coupon #, if unused when first generated, would be regenerated on another device. To me, it sounds more like someone wrote a coupon code on a piece of paper and used it. My hypothesis in any case FWIW.
