Needless to say, this is military only. Go us!

UPDATE: 1400 PST on 5/18/2012 - Dell IS starting to cave on some of the orders they initially cancelled. AAFES is contacting some customers who complained and offering to reinstate the deals "which were not too big of a mistake," saying a "Dell Escalation Specialist" would be contacting the customers shortly to see if they still want their computer order, and Dell would honor the original price. It likely depends on which computer and config you ordered, but some of them are apparently getting reinstated.

If you only ordered ONE you have a good chance of getting reinstated if you are firm and persistent. Get with it!

CONSUMERIST ORDER EXPLAINING ONE OF THE CANCELLATIONS NICELY IS UP:

Dell Offers 25% Off Deal To Troops, Then Cancels Orders [consumerist.com]

WHAT TO DO IF DELL CANCELS YOUR AAFES ORDER

It seems Dell is beginning to cancel more orders (most from the 9th have shipped, but the 10th seems headed toward mostly cancelled) from the hot AAFES Mother's Day Alienware deal they offered last week. Don't despair. Dell has cancelled hot AAFES deals before after the fact and ended up backing down and reinstating/shipping them after a storm of emails/negative attention. All they need is a little prompting to do the right thing, but you have to DO something to get them to change their mind - all AAFES members with an order do.

I'd recommend all military AAFES members who got order cancellations do the following:
The more complaints from affected servicemen/women these places get, the more likely Dell will end up honoring the deal. The fact that they're screwing military makes it worse for Dell from a PR perspective.

Also, the $4 Ivy Bridge upgrade that was part of the laptop deal is really not that big of a blunder for Dell because they're automatically upgrading all current Alienware orders to Ivy Bridge for FREE anyway i5 Sandy Bridge -> i5 Ivy Bridge and i7 Sandy Bridge -> i7 Ivy Bridge. No cost to the general public, this is not a special AAFES deal or mistake, so there's no excuse for cancelling the upgrade option they did through AAFES for $4.

To track your shipment:
1) Go to FedEx's website and search by reference number. https://www.fedex.com/AltRefTracking?cntry_code=us
2) Enter your order number (from the confirmation email) as the reference number and complete the destination country and zip code. The account number can be left blank.
3) Click "track".

Notice of Intent to Resell

Exchange patrons are prohibited from the following: (1) Making (or purchasing for the purpose of making) a sale, exchange, transfer, or other disposition of exchange merchandise or services to unauthorized patrons (customary gifts of a personal nature are permissible). (2) Using exchange merchandise or services to produce income. (3) Making purchases for the purpose of resale by, or on behalf of, an installation private organization or other non-government entity.
<----- Why is this in red? This is the bold print you get from ANY Dell purchase. Put on the foil hat! There isn't an profit in trying to sell one of these anyways.
Actually, this is AAFES specific, not Dell specific. Exchange = AAFES.

For whoever made multiple orders and sent to different addresses/names, think twice on if you need to cancel some of the orders for saving your career. You are challenging the government.

Screw it, finally gonna bite and blow some money I don't need to spend. Does the coupon code xi299ss still work? When during the ordering process do you input the coupon code?

Edit: Nevermind, found it.

I totally want the Alienware m17x R4, 7970m, 1080p set-up for $1200+. I think I have some family members who works for the military. Two questions though

1) Can that person pay using my credit card?
2) Can the laptop be shipped to my address instead of his?

I do one of those things most times I use these kinds of discounts but doing both looks a little strange if done multiple times but thats just my opinion. I wouldn't see it as exploitation by any means if done a couple times per year but anymore and you'd be pushing your luck.

I would say no for the 2GB of ram for the video card for gaming unless you decide to run an external monitor that is beyond 1080p or more than 1 1080p monitor. Seeing as the max resolution for the M14x only goes to 1600x900 the regular 650M is more than enough. As for the 12G of ram that will only help in CPU intensive games (like SC2 for example) but for most games you will not notice a big difference. Ram is more for multitasking, but 12G is over kill for most. The sweet spot most would argue right now is 4-8G's (software has not caught up to hardware yet) especially seeing how this is quality ram at 1600mhz I feel 12 is not needed but that's your call. Just be glad you can get in on the deal I'm very jelly laugh out loud
There's so many things wrong with this post I don't even know where to begin. Starcraft 2 wouldn't benefit from going from 4 to 8 GB of RAM, let alone 12 GB. And that video card (GT 650 m) is quite mediocre. If you want something for serious gaming (Skyrim, BF3, etc), then get something with at least a GTX 580 (equivalent to a GTX 675). Otherwise, you will have a laptop that very soon won't be able to play most new games at better than medium settings.

If you can find Ivy Bridge i7, 650M, 6G of 1600 ram and 1T of 7200 HDD for around $550 anywhere else let me know LMAO
Not saying it's not a good deal at all, just calling it like it is when it comes to AAFES. No need to break out the silly faces.

This is sad, I certainly would not of gone away quietly... kudos to you for taking the high ground,

This is true; but, the m14x bare with the i7 for $554 is a good deal, you can always upgrade to an SSD on your own. 6GB RAM is more than enough for the other hardware capabilities of this laptop and if you plan on sitting and playing a game get a good monitor to play on as 900p is by no means "HD".

I won't comment on people getting their friends' drinkin' buddy to get one for a 12 pack of beer. You figured a way to cheat the system and the people who are eligible for this, so figure the rest out on your own.
Very true, and I'm glad you didn't get on the hate-wagon like the other dude. Those of us who've had to live with AAFES knows exactly how they are. Honestly I'd be amazed if they stay in business if they weren't the only game in town.

The 650m can run bf3 on ultra (the ddr5 version)...I think you're delusional man!

After reading more of the comments to save problems the things that if I was looking at possible exploits or fraud in lessening order would be if ip addresses in different states or countries were logging into the account to make the purchases, how many times or number of items ordered...think resale, and for card and billing....It wouldn't even be a blip if I'd use their card and ship to my address or as a gift to them the reverse with my card used and their different address.

The thing to remember is don't give them a reason to look closer at the transactions because if you do things outside the norm and cause it to be looked at closer, then those man hours spent looking at the history need to be accounted for and my own experience I need to log from every 1/4 man hour to every 4hrs spent depending on project and who its for.

A system of this size may even have some things like bans done automatically if preset parameter limits are exceeded for that account within a given timeframe.
