Found this interesting read from our deal friend @fueldude. From what I was told, you'll get a list each quarter to choose from for the 5%.
Can switch between the 2% categories quarterly as well.

Apply here: http://www.usbank.com/credit-card...ature.html
Categories available: https://cashplus.usbank.com/index.../demo/true

Finally a card that's all cash that you control. The U.S. Bank Cash+ Visa Signature card lets you choose and change your 5% and 2% Cash+ Categories, plus you get 1% back on everything else - with no limit on how much you can earn.
Earn 5% cash back on two categories that you choose, like home improvement stores or airline tickets.1, 2
Earn 2% cash back on gas, groceries or drug stores – choose one.1, 2
Earn 1% cash back on everything else.
Get a $25 Cash+ Bonus each time you redeem $100 or more cash back in a single redemption.3
No Annual Fee

So you can get 5% unlimited CB on whatever category you choose or is there a max limit? I cannot seem to find that information.

You can't really choose WHAT YOU WANT. They have Categorized the categories. E.g. There are 3 categories that fall under 2%. You are restricted to use only those 3 to use 2%. Similarly for 5% one. Groceries are in 2% bucket. You can't choose grocery stores as 5%. No Thankyou. Chase Freedom FTW.

Edit: Its pretty good for frequent Flyers. 5% on airlines and hotels.

unless they keep the categories the same, i don't know how much different this is than the freedom card.

"Cardmember must enroll each quarter into categories of their choice, or all net purchases will earn no more than 1% cash back. Categories subject to change quarterly. U.S. Bank cannot control how merchants choose to classify their business (purchase categories) and reserves the right to determine which purchases qualify. Full details will be provided upon approval of an account."

It seems as there is a lot of categories available if the demo in the OP is accurate. This is unlike Chase where the categories are pre-selected for you. A huge benefit for me.

From their FAQ:

•Is there a limit to the amount I can earn in the Cash+ Categories?
Unless it is stated separately on the promotion, there are no limits to what you can earn in the Cash+ Categories.

no one actually has the actual list of categories this quarter?

it seems very risk to take this card purely based on the "example" categories available, since most of us do most of our spending in specific categories.

i.e. a frequent traveler is planning on applying to get 5% on hotels and airfare, but if that category comes around only 1 quarter it's not too useful...

another stupid question-- I have historically never used a "categories" card, because I hate trying to remember which card has what categories as well as trying to figure out what category each location is.

i.e. I eat lunch at a deli, is it a fast food, restaurant, or grocery store? How do I even know AFTER I've made the charge, the transactions never even have the labels...
