Thread Details

I called AT&T and told them I'm thinking about cancelling my service, because a local competitor MetroPCS, has better deals. They offered me family text messaging for 6 months free, which is $30 a month. Told me to hang in there, times are hard, but they have shared family data plans coming this summer, and to enjoy the $30 credit for 6 months, then reconsider after seeing the shared data plans that are supposedly due out this summer.

I have 5 lines, and all 5 are still under contract, with over 1 year remaining. I told the rep I was willing to pay the ETF fee's because I'll save money in the long run.

This worked for 4 different people, figured I'd share with you guys.

Initial retention offer included 3Mo - $25off. Or if I went to the 750min plan, 6Mo of unlimited texting for free. I declined both, asked for more of a one-time credit. Received 180$ + both lines early upgrade even though I just upgraded to iPhone in October.
What phones did you redeem on both lines? Did you have to pay activation fee?

Usually I paid around $210 for 3 smartphones (300MB of data each) and 2 regular phones. The plan had around 700 minutes, and I also had unlimited messaging family plan.

I called them and said I was thinking of canceling because T-Mobile has the same price but with unlimited everything for all 5 phones.
He recommended me to the family share plan. The plan stated that 5 phones share 4GB with unlimited talk and text. All for $180. I nagged him a little more and he exempt this month's bill and gave me credit of $100 for next month.

(Looking at the chart, the amount should've been around $250 under Family Share Plan, but he told me $180, so I hope it is..)
Pretty awesome Rep. He wanted me to stay for sure.

Thanks for making me call AT&T lol

I actually can't redeem yet till May (soon) but they said I can basically get many of the phones for $99 or some of the newer ones nearer 150-200$ sans the iPhone. Just like new activations go for subsidized plans but I have to redeem over the phone, not in store. I will ask for the activation fee to be waived, I always have since I am not a new customer and my account doesn't have to be set up. They always comply with that request.

I was offered $20 text messaging for life buy calling and telling them I wanted to change. Not great but not bad.
is the $20 text message for life a 1 time charge, and you'll get the unlimited text for life? or it's $20 every month? I'm a bit confused. Please help. TIA

It is $20 texting for life. The free messaging is for 6 months. I had the $20 text messaging for a while now and when I called in a bit ago they gave me free text messaging for 6 months so yes you can get this more than once in a 12 month period. Also the CSR rep I spoke with told me when this runs out to call back there may be more promotions they can apply to my account. I am hoping to get the $20 family messaging for life back at that time.

so the $20 is a ONE time charge, and you'll get the text message for life, right?

I received the 6 month free texting promo($30 off) last summer and it expired in January. Just called, again just now and explained the bill is too high and asked if he can help so I do not have to go plan shopping this weekend. He offered me $40 off for 3 months and proceeded to review my account(My phone and my parents lumped on) and see if my plan was the right option.

Long story short, I switched from 700 min family plan, unlimited text, a 5gb iphone and two 3gb iphones $203 before tax to a 6GB shared data plan(with unlimited text and talk) for 181.50 before tax. Parents use about 500mb a month and I use about 4G. He saved me 20 bucks a month and offered 40 off for 3 months, I am happy. Thanks AT&T for helping out a customer that spends about 4,000 a year on your services(depressing to type that out).
