Wait for uncarrier ..rumoured to start end of March

T-Mobile’s Back-To-School Promotion Begins July 1st
TMobile upcoming back-to-school promotion beginning July 1st offering promotional family plans with $5 Classic and $0 Value add-a-lines. This promotional offering will offer savings of $5 per month, until January 2, 2014.

The promo offer is good for all Classic and Value plans that have shared limited buckets of minutes and the 500-minute AAL on unlimited family plans. Free nights and weekends, and other t-mobile.

Notes/Fine prints:
  • Good for both new and existing customers, and of course it requires a two-year contract. Existing customers will be required to change their existing rate plan and extend their contract on all lines to take advantage of this promo. A quick reminder that a contract extension for a rate plan change does not affect your upgrade date for a new phone
  • No grandfathered features (no myfav, no tzone, no web2go, no ...etc).
  • Tax+fees depending on your location, +12% in CA. Some military or corp -5% to -20% discount. Also tax on migration fees, and smartphone.
  • You do NOT need to get all 5 lines, but current promo gives you 3rd, 4th and 5th discount until Jan 2, 2014. Pricing will not change if you only get less line. After Jan 2nd, 2014, you will have to pay $5 extra for each 3rd, 4th and 5th.
  • Once that line/number are on Value plan, current t-mobile policy will not allow you to get back to plan which offer subsidy in future. So once you are in value plan, you will always have to buy devices yourself.
  • One account can have upto 5 lines. One person if qualify can have multiple accounts.

Best deal on value plan. Corp, military discount can be applied.

UNLIMITED MINUTES WITH DATA VALUE PLAN:
add $25 for 3rd, 4th, 5th each for unlimited talk. Add $10 for 3rd, 4th, 5th each for 2GB high speed. Add $25 for 3rd, 4th, 5th for 5GB high speed, $10 per line mobile to/from mobile (skype, google voice is not consider as mobile). Add $20 for unlimited nationwide un-throttle

5 lines for $50: (5 lines sharing 1000 minutes, no text, no data) << add $10 for 2GB, $20 for un-throttle data, $25 for 5GB
.....

I have worked hard to pull info from different official sites to create this deal...rep me if you find this a good deal hug

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Classic plan also have this promo benefit, but monthly will be slightly more, BUT YOU GET BETTER DISCOUNT on smartphone. Value plan customer needs to buy smartphone at "retail price". In my location, costco retail price on smartphone is cheaper than t-mobile retail store.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
HOW TO GET THIS DEAL

STEP 0: Check t-mobile coverage in your area: http://www.t-mobile.com/coverage/pcc.aspx
If you are new to t-mobile or getting a new plan, please do the activation in person, do NOT use t-mobile chat. This will save a lot of grief and human error, a wisdom from many experienced t-mobile customers.

A.If you are still in contract t-mobile customer, call t-mobile directly for the add-on promo. If you are interested in value plan, they will have to check if you qualify for value plan. Check migration fees below. For NEW customer, I would recommend going personally to costco or tmobile retail store. Update, just learn this myself on 7/5: You can get this online. Put the package into the cart first and then customize each line at checkout, http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/Pack...kages.aspx. Update 7/6: if you cannot get unlimited plan via t-mobile website, you can call t-mobile directly or goto retail store (t-mobile, costco, best buy...etc). It's still available, t-mobile website is just missing lots of features and plan.

B. IF you are interested in value plan and planning to get a smartphone at costco, eg Samsung S2, do steps below:
1. First make sure you qualify: out of t-mobile contract or qualify for upgrade (not value plan) or less than 6 months left on t-mobile contract (not value plan) or new t-mobile customer or currently value plan customer wanting add-a-line, AND (access to costco membership and data plan)
2. Goto local costco. Tell them that you wanted value plan and wanted smartphones as well. Do your transactions. New activation is free, not sure about existing add-a-line customer. Sim is free.
3. Go home, make sure everything works and happy. If you have corp/military/eduction discount..etct, then call t-mobile CS. They should be able to apply for you.
UPDATE 7/23/2012: Costco will NO longer sell S3 with value plan.
UPDATE 8/07/2012: Costco now require phone purchase with all value lines activated. Thus I would recommend ONLY activating value plan lines for smartphones (first two line) or (add-a-line). Costco smartphone are decently priced but all their dumb phone are really really expensive! Then goto t-mobile stores to add/activate the rest. Remember to ask for free activation.

C. You DO NOT need to goto costco to get the value plan and classic plan deal. You can get value plan or classic plan along with smartphone anywhere, eg: t-mobile store, amazon wireless, walmart, ...etc. Major differences is the pricing of the smartphone. You can always buy at independent market like google nexus at google play or ebay or craigslist or amazon store. Costco is only mentioned here because they have great smartphone price when u activate/signup there. Where and when you activate/signup the value plan will determine the cost of your smartphone. So if you signup/activate at costco, then you get costo smartphone pricing. If you signup/activate at t-mobile store, you get t-mobile store smartphone pricing, you cannot go back to costco to get costco smartphone pricing later for that line. Lesson here: signup/activate plan or line where the smartphone is cheapest, and get the smartphone for that line at the same time.

D. If you don't want to buy smartphones for value plan, then just goto t-mobile store. It'll be free sim and NO activation fees. Note that once you are already in value plan, in future, you will NOT be able to buy smartphone for those lines at value plan prices, not in costco and not with t-mobile. Those lines will not be able to transfer back to a subsidized t-mobile plan (eg: classic, ...etc). This is the current t-mobile policy. It may or may not change in future. You can buy phones at ebay, craigslist, google play or get pre-paid phones, ..etc. Note that phone prices trend is dropping like crazy.

E. If you decide to buy smartphone, remember that tax on smartphone is based on retail price. If you pay migration fees, there will be tax on that too.

My experience shows that being nice to the salesperson or cs makes getting the deal easier, especially retention laugh out loud
----------------------------------------------------------------------
MIGRATION FEES for existing t-mobile customer still in contract and wanting to move to value plan. Depending on when you get your phone subsidized, there maybe a migration fees going to value plan PER LINE. Tax on migration fees. Official doc from t-mobile: http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-3282. Use this if anyone tells you differently.

So if someone just need a 1000 mins family plan for two phones and already has one phone (just need to buy one phone like a Note 2), what's the best way to go? Pretty much just need a 2 lines 1000 mins family Value plan and one new hone and one sim card.
If you signup for Value plan and buy one phone (or SIM card), won't that be individual plan and not family plan? And individual Value plan only has 500 mins plan and not 1000 mins one.
Signup for "family" plan takes minimum of two. If I were you, I will signup two new lines at costco, and buy the Note2 (the one you want) and also get the Note1(to be sold at ebay/craigs). Note1 is decently priced at ~$250 and Note2 at ~$550. I don't remember exact pricing, but it'll be cheaper than t-mobile store. Check ebay/craigs on value of phone to be sold ....

Other possibility is sigup via classic and then do etf. Check on etf fees and conditions.

Sorry if this has been answered before, but if I get the $100 plan for 5 with the two lines of 2GB data, do all the lines have free t-mobile to t-mobile calling within the family plan? Also, free night or weekends?
Yes, free t-moblie to t-mobile and free nights & weekends.

I think you're right. On the chart, it says additional xGB of high speed data, so it'll likely throttle you instead of charging you another 2GB.
From my understanding, there will be two types of data, one for $10 2GB high speed +$10 overage every 2GB. This will have the highest data priority. Second type is $20 per unlimited data, no throttling BUT will have lower priority. So speed maybe slowed depending on data congestion at the tower I am using. This is just my understanding. I don't work for t-mobile, just a customer.

In the link you posted before

http://www.tmonews.com/2013/03/br...-approach/

It stated......

Every rate plan with unlimited data includes Smartphone Mobile HotSpot, with postpaid offering lower out-of-pocket costs using the equipment installment plan. No more overages, no more surprise bills, no more activations fees and one single rate plan for the carrier. As for Mobile BroadBand, with a voice plan it’s $10 and for standalone pricing it’s $20 per month. Each MBB plan includes 500MB of data, with each additional 2GB of data costing an additional $10 up to 12 total GB. So, a standalone customer using T-Mobile’s MBB plan with 6GB of data will pay $20 + $30 ($10 per 2GB) for a total of $50.

And based on the material in those links, there is no mention of overage and all plans said unlimited Web + xxx GB High Speed data. May be they have an option so customer can select automatically add 2GB 4G data after hitting your cap? Or you can pick don't use 4G after hitting your cap?

From the same link:
That’s not all as T-Mobile is introducing a whole new rate plan with Unlimited Talk, Text and 500MB of web included automatically. But wait, you want more data? Well, T-Mobile can help with that. For each line, you can add 2GB of data for $10 per 2GB of data each month OR you can add the $20 unlimited data plan to each line. You got that right, that’s one rate plan for the entire company, no more choosing between Value and Classic plans, it’s one rate — all the time.

I think for the Postpaid DATA, it said....

Benefits of Postpaid are:
  • Multiple data options, only 500MB, +2GB and UNL on Prepaid.

Both payment types include:
  • No overage or surprise bills

Sounds like you can choice what data options you want. Only 500MB probably means only 500MB, and then drop to 2G. And +2GB probably means every 2GB for $10 more. Since they mention no overage and unlimited web, AND they have multiple data option, probably means the +2GB for $10 is optional.

Let give more examples based on data use.

current value plan w/1000 mins, assuming you need more than 200MB and <2GB 4G data, you pay:

$50 - 2 line (1000 mins, no text)
$5 - line 3
$10 - unlimited txt for all lines in your family plan
$10 - 2GB data for line 1
$10 - 2GB data for line 2
$10 - 2GB data for line 3
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
$95/month from 2014

current value plan w/1000 mins, assuming you need >2GB (Unlimited) 4G data, you pay:

$50 - 2 line (1000 mins, no text)
$5 - line 3
$10 - unlimited txt for all lines in your family plan
$20 - Unlimited data for line 1
$20 - Unlimited data for line 2
$20 - Unlimited data for line 3
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
$125/month from 2014

current value plan, assuming you have unlimited talk, text, and data on all 3 phones, you pay:

$80 - 2 line (unlimited talk, text)
$5 - line 3
$20 - Unlimited data for line 1
$20 - Unlimited data for line 2
$20 - Unlimited data for line 3
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
$145/month from 2014

For the new plan for people use between 200MB to <500MB 4G data on all 3 phones

$80 - 2 line (Unlimited talk, text, Web + 500 MB high speed 4G)
$10 - line 3
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
$90/month from 2014

For the new plan for people use between 500MB to 2.5GB 4G data on all 3 phones
$80 - 2 line (Unlimited talk, text, Web + 500 MB high speed 4G)
$10 - line 3
$10 - 2GB 4G data for line 1 (include mobile hotspot)
$10 - 2GB 4G data for line 2 (include mobile hotspot)
$10 - 2GB 4G data for line 3 (include mobile hotspot)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
$120/month from 2014 (Unlimited talk, text, Web + 2.5 GB high speed data)

For the new plan, people use between >2.5GB 4G data on all 3 phones
$80 - 2 line (Unlimited talk, text, Web + 500 MB high speed 4G)
$10 - line 3
$20 - Unlimited 4G data for line 1 (no hotspot)
$20 - Unlimited 4G data for line 2 (no hotspot)
$20 - Unlimited 4G data for line 3 (not hotspot)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
$150/month from 2014 (Unlimited Talk, Text, and Unlimited 4G)

So from 2014, if you still use less than 1000 family minutes, then the new plan is better than the old one only if you.....
  • use 200 MB to 500 MB 4G data. Value plan cost $95 and new plan cost $90.
  • use between 2GB to 2.5GB 4G data. Value plan cost $125 and new plan $120.

So from 2014, if you family want unlimited minutes, then the new plan is better than the old one only if you.....
  • use 200 MB to 500 MB 4G data. Value plan cost $115 and new plan cost $90.
  • use between 2GB to 2.5GB 4G data. Value plan cost $145 and new plan $120.

For unlimited talk, text, Value plan is still cheaper if
  • use between 500 MB to 2GB 4G data. Value plan cost $115 and new plan cost $120.
  • use 2.5GB+ 4G data. Value plan cost $145 and new plan $150.

Because of Value plan is $5 per additional line and new plan is $10 per additional line, more lines you have mean the new plan is more expensive.
In short, If you have 3 or more phones and you use 500MB to 2GB 4G data or more than 2.5GB data, doesn't matter if you have 1000 mins or unlimited minutes plan, the old Value plan is cheaper than the new plan. And new plan in most cases are more expensive especially more than 2 phone lines.

I called T-mobile Loyalty today and was able to receive $10/mo loyalty credit and they were able to give me free AAL till January 2nd, 2014. However, I feel like that they should be able to do some more like give account credit or such so I didn't accept it yet. What do you guys think? Should I try calling again and get a better bargain or just proceed with it?

depends on type of plan you are on. If you are on classic plan, then you should be able to get more, like one to two free S3 for extension 2 yr, in addition to above you mentioned. If you are on value plan, hummmm....hard to say because the service is already pretty low priced, maybe additional $5-$10 data discount ??

I'm on a legacy 750 minutes even more plan and trying to see my options. Has that data discount ever been given to anybody? I called again and was given $10/mo off for 6 months on my current plan (I'm not sure how long it takes to be applied). Will it stay if I switch to the value plan?

legacy EM+ is a subsidized phone plan, so you should be able to get almost free phone(s) if you decide to renew +2 year contract w/classic. If u decide to goto value, some people reported getting couple of hundred dollars credit towards their future bills. YMMV when dealing with retention, which normally can get you the best deal.

I am on 1000 min talk classic plan with 2 AAL. I want to change to 1000 minute family value with 2gb data for 2 line. Will I have to renew my contract for another 2 years? (20 months on current contract)

Did you get any subsidized phone? if so, look at migration fees in OP.

Yes I did. I am willing to pay for migration fee but I was just wondering whether the 1000min value plan will make me sign up for another 2 years contract or not. I rather switch plan and pay monthly.

So I am going to be a completely new customer to T-Mobile since I am coming over from Sprint. How does my plan sound?
(1) Sign up for the Classic 1000 Min with Talk & Text family plan, 3 lines each with 2gb data
(2) Get (3) lines with all Nexus 4 from Tmobile. They are $99 after instant rebates. There is also a $50 rebate, but I probably won't have the classic plan long enough to qualify.
(3) Immediately switch to 1000 Min family value plan, paying $600 total in migration fees. I will keep my Nexus 4 while my dad and brother do their own thing, either selling or trading for the phone they want.

Some questions:
(1) So should I avoid other 3rd party resellers like Wirefly or Amazonwireless because they would charge an additional ETF on top of T-Mobile's ETF?
(2) Lets say my line uses more than 2gb. Can I switch to a higher amount, even if this old plan goes away?

Nexus 4 is only $300 from Google Play, so getting it subsidized and switching is pointless.

It does have a two year contract on the value plan. I moved from a 750 em to the 1000 min value family plan. They were able to give me 10/month off for 24 months and 80 dollar one time credit (my 750 em monthly cost before taxes).
