T-Mobile’s Back-To-School Promotion Begins July 1st
TMobile upcoming back-to-school promotion beginning July 1st offering promotional family plans with $5 Classic and $0 Value add-a-lines. This promotional offering will offer savings of $5 per month, until January 2, 2014.

The promo offer is good for all Classic and Value plans that have shared limited buckets of minutes and the 500-minute AAL on unlimited family plans. Free nights and weekends, and other t-mobile.

Notes/Fine prints:
  • Good for both new and existing customers, and of course it requires a two-year contract. Existing customers will be required to change their existing rate plan and extend their contract on all lines to take advantage of this promo. A quick reminder that a contract extension for a rate plan change does not affect your upgrade date for a new phone
  • No grandfathered features (no myfav, no tzone, no web2go, no ...etc).
  • Tax+fees depending on your location, +12% in CA. Some military or corp -5% to -20% discount. Also tax on migration fees, and smartphone.
  • You do NOT need to get all 5 lines, but current promo gives you 3rd, 4th and 5th discount until Jan 2, 2014. Pricing will not change if you only get less line. After Jan 2nd, 2014, you will have to pay $5 extra for each 3rd, 4th and 5th.
  • Once that line/number are on Value plan, current t-mobile policy will not allow you to get back to plan which offer subsidy in future. So once you are in value plan, you will always have to buy devices yourself.
  • One account can have upto 5 lines. One person if qualify can have multiple accounts.

Best deal on value plan. Corp, military discount can be applied.

I have worked hard to pull info from different official sites to create this deal...rep me if you find this a good deal hug

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Classic plan also have this promo benefit, but monthly will be slightly more, BUT YOU GET BETTER DISCOUNT on smartphone. Value plan customer needs to buy smartphone at "retail price". In my location, costco retail price on smartphone is cheaper than t-mobile retail store.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
HOW TO GET THIS DEAL

STEP 0: Check t-mobile coverage in your area: http://www.t-mobile.com/coverage/pcc.aspx
If you are new to t-mobile or getting a new plan, please do the activation in person, do NOT use t-mobile chat. This will save a lot of grief and human error, a wisdom from many experienced t-mobile customers.

A.If you are still in contract t-mobile customer, call t-mobile directly for the add-on promo. If you are interested in value plan, they will have to check if you qualify for value plan. Check migration fees below. For NEW customer, I would recommend going personally to costco or tmobile retail store. Update, just learn this myself on 7/5: You can get this online. Put the package into the cart first and then customize each line at checkout, http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/Pack...kages.aspx. Update 7/6: if you cannot get unlimited plan via t-mobile website, you can call t-mobile directly or goto retail store (t-mobile, costco, best buy...etc). It's still available, t-mobile website is just missing lots of features and plan.

B. IF you are interested in value plan and planning to get a smartphone at costco, eg Samsung S2, do steps below:
1. First make sure you qualify: out of t-mobile contract or qualify for upgrade (not value plan) or less than 6 months left on t-mobile contract (not value plan) or new t-mobile customer or currently value plan customer wanting add-a-line, AND (access to costco membership and data plan)
2. Goto local costco. Tell them that you wanted value plan and wanted smartphones as well. Do your transactions. New activation is free, not sure about existing add-a-line customer. Sim is free.
3. Go home, make sure everything works and happy. If you have corp/military/eduction discount..etct, then call t-mobile CS. They should be able to apply for you.
UPDATE 7/23/2012: Costco will NO longer sell S3 with value plan.
UPDATE 8/07/2012: Costco now require phone purchase with all value lines activated. Thus I would recommend ONLY activating value plan lines for smartphones (first two line) or (add-a-line). Costco smartphone are decently priced but all their dumb phone are really really expensive! Then goto t-mobile stores to add/activate the rest. Remember to ask for free activation.

C. You DO NOT need to goto costco to get the value plan and classic plan deal. You can get value plan or classic plan along with smartphone anywhere, eg: t-mobile store, amazon wireless, walmart, ...etc. Major differences is the pricing of the smartphone. You can always buy at independent market like google nexus at google play or ebay or craigslist or amazon store. Costco is only mentioned here because they have great smartphone price when u activate/signup there. Where and when you activate/signup the value plan will determine the cost of your smartphone. So if you signup/activate at costco, then you get costo smartphone pricing. If you signup/activate at t-mobile store, you get t-mobile store smartphone pricing, you cannot go back to costco to get costco smartphone pricing later for that line. Lesson here: signup/activate plan or line where the smartphone is cheapest, and get the smartphone for that line at the same time.

D. If you don't want to buy smartphones for value plan, then just goto t-mobile store. It'll be free sim and NO activation fees. Note that once you are already in value plan, in future, you will NOT be able to buy smartphone for those lines at value plan prices, not in costco and not with t-mobile. Those lines will not be able to transfer back to a subsidized t-mobile plan (eg: classic, ...etc). This is the current t-mobile policy. It may or may not change in future. You can buy phones at ebay, craigslist, google play or get pre-paid phones, ..etc. Note that phone prices trend is dropping like crazy.

E. If you decide to buy smartphone, remember that tax on smartphone is based on retail price. If you pay migration fees, there will be tax on that too.

My experience shows that being nice to the salesperson or cs makes getting the deal easier, especially retention laugh out loud
----------------------------------------------------------------------
MIGRATION FEES for existing t-mobile customer still in contract and wanting to move to value plan. Depending on when you get your phone subsidized, there maybe a migration fees going to value plan PER LINE. Tax on migration fees. Official doc from t-mobile: http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-3282. Use this if anyone tells you differently.

Signed up for this deal:

http://slickdeals.net/f/5416754-Bestbuy-Ebay-25-off-Mobile-Phones-Only?v=1

Got the Note 2 for $247 plus tax and a $35 activation fee, chose the same plan to renew. Once I get the phone I plan on walking into a tmobile store and asking to be changed a value plan.

No need to pay tmobile at $279 down payment, then an additional $20/month.

It was $270.06 out of the door with the $35 supposedly added to my next bill ....I'm sure I can call customer loyalty/ retention and have the credit me for $35
If I understand correctly, people can sign up for Classic plan and get any subsidized phone (must be from taht bestbuy deal??). Then within 14 days, can go to T-mobile store and switch to Value plan without any migration fee or other fee? And don't need to pay additional amount for the phone?
How many people tried it and how long ago?

I really want to know if this can be done or not. It doesn't seem like it would fly since value plans don't offer subsidized pricing on phones and that is basically what is being done.

Not sure.
We're still waiting for the guy to reply since he was pretty convinced he would not pay the $200 migration fee, even though the migration guidelines say that he will.

Isn't 14 days the return period for the phone?
So, T-mobile would require you to return the phones if you switched plans.
Just my opinion...

I currently have a Classic T-Mobile plan with 5 lines. Just called today and 4 of the lines will not have a migration fee on nov 18th, this will save me $200 if I wait (50x4) but this deal expires on the 12th. I really want to get in on this deal, would save me extra 15$ for the 3 lines added for a year, $195(13months x15). Is there going to be a similar deal?

For two of the lines right now I don't need the data plans but may want it some time later. Is this something we can add after the contract is signed and at the same prices? ($5 for 200mb, $10 for 2gb)?

hey guys I need some opinions for this value plan.

currently out of contract with Tmo(8 yrs with them) paying $72.72 w/tax & fees
I'm in a family plan for 2 lines only that has 700 shared and 1 line w/400 text no data
both lines are eligible for upgrade
new plan would need to include 1000 voice shared min, unlm text for both, 1 line w/data
need 1 smartphone and other 2nd just dumbphone(first smartphone for myself)
(only need 2 lines)

Not trying to overly spend $ for smartphone and monthly.I wanted to get the S3 for $100 @ bestbuy but it has passed. I also have been to costco and they were offering the S3 in the value plan, but price was to high for me compared to classic plan pricing. I would look into other alternatives for getting a smartphone. I would like to keep my monthly rate just under $90 w/tax & fees. Would like some feedback from you guys Thanks in advance.

call retension. They can probably give you great deal on one/two S3 or Note2 to extend contract for 2 years. Have the phone on hand, and then goto t-mobile store to migrate to value plan. Pay $200 +tax for each new phone you received. 1000 minutes shared, all text, one line smartphone w/2GB is $70. Look at wiki for additional corp/edu/military discount. Also there is $10 monthly loyalty discount. Enjoy Big Grin

yep, you can add data later, probably at same price. It's consider a feature/add-on.

this is an amazing deal. Cant believe i didnt switch yet. We practically have the same plan but pay $50 so definitely making the switch.

On the other hand...i will stay as far away from LG as possible. As a g2x owner i am apalled. Thats all i will say. You can argue that it will be an official google supported phone but that doesnt help me rest.

I was just at costco, and I asked about the value plan. He said for 2 lines, its $99.99 for unlimited talk/text/data (throttle after 2gb). I thought it was $80 (according to the wiki) for that plan?

I'm currently on prepaid with t-mobile, so if I switch to the value plan, would I be able to use my same number? If I want the S3 or the Note2, how would I go and get that?

Thanks =)

i currently have $5 Prefered First Phone Unlimited Data in value family plan $79.99 2000 min. I know it is very difficult to get that data $5 added to plan. But my concern is do i need to call to add it back to a new plan when i switch to $59.99 value plan 1000 min. Or will it automatically added to the new plan ?

Yes, you can keep your numbers. 2 lines you can get:
$60 for 1000 shared minutes, all text << add $10 for 2GB per line
$100 for both lines unlimited minutes, all text, both lines w/2GB data
For 2 lines, you don't have the Nov 13 deadline promo. If I were you, try get best smartphone deals BF at costco or t-mobile on classic plan. Then migrate w/$200 per line plus tax to value plan. Before signing any contract, make sure you verify ALL breakup fees. Some companies like wirefly will have their own additional breakup fees.

From my understanding, no grandfather features allowed in this free add-a-line promo. My *guess* is that you will not be allowed to add the $5 prefered first phone. Note that once you are out of an old grandfather plan, you will not be allowed back into grandfather plan if you don't like the new plan Frown

First, double check your migration date per line with 2-3 CS. Then, I would go talk to several t-mobile sales person face to face, especially the more SENIOR sales rep. See how creative they can be, and willingness to work with you...creating another new account in parallel, with temporary phone number, transfer later??...etc. Under no circumstance should you allow your existing number be move to value plan before migration date, since it's only a few days away. From my *limited* understanding those migration fees are internally backend generated, so regular sales person will have hard time to waiver it. This is my personal opinion, no proof..
