Save $10 for 20 months by ordering through AAA. Call 1-800-370-3578.

Get a $150 Best Buy gift card if you activate service and spend $399 or more at Best Buy. bestbuy.directv.com

You may also stack the Directv referral discount. Use an existing Direct TV customer as your referral and you and the referral will each save $10 for 10 months. You must order service through the specific means above and then prior to your installation date call 877-848-4623 with your referral account to have them add this discount. You cannot order through the referral line and then call for the Costco, AAA, or Best Buy deal. You can however stack the referral discount and the Costco discount easily by completing your order online.

Any questions, please ask. Numerous posters on this board have Directv and there have been numerous money saving threads on here as well. Directv is one of the easier companies to get discounts and perks through.

this is all fine and dandy, and props to OP for starting a thread, but everyone who has dealt with directv knows that there are no "standard" promotions/discounts. even as a new customer with no history, much of the promotion is tailored to the content you are interested in and there is no "off the shelf promo package".

Since they don't have these 26 channels, does that mean I can opt out of my current contract? Meaning can I break my current contract because they promised all these channels and I am not getting them?

Can you get the AAA deal by ordering online and putting in an AAA deal or must you call the 800 number? I am not a member but a family member is. I am a costco member but would rather have the AAA deal.
For AAA deal you need to call the specific 800 number to order. Can't order online for the AAA deal.

So do you have to pay the $10 for whole home dvr? Doesn't the package come with a hd dvr? Or is that only if you add another?

anybody try to get this for existing customer?
Yes, existing under contract customers can always call and threaten to cancel, and if you get the right CSR (call repeatedly if needed) you will be offered credits which will equate to about the same deal here (e.g. credits, rebates, free premium channels for 2-12 months depending on how many you get, FREE ST MAX, etc.).

The beauty of DTV is that customers that don't know to call and get credits actually help pay (subsidize) the deals that savvy customers like SDers know to get.

garbage, no one cares. i can call cable and get 3 months od hbo/max like any day of the week. thats worthless.

they run credit checks, and last time we called they wanted like $400-500 deposit to get an HD DVR

none of what is listed is the real prices. Contract? its ****ing TV. seriously?

just like DISH, directv is a dying company. no need to kick a dead horse

I am a current Directv customer (Choice Ultimate). My contract expires next month. I was thinking to not renew contract as there seems not to have any great deal for existing customer. Any thoughts?

Called number to add referral after signing up through AAA promo. Was told that I cannot stack an additional promotion. Should I just call back and try a different CSR?

For all you haters of DTV's channel line ups, and all you saying to just watch online, go to cable or some other options, you need to get some perspective and realize not all watchers are just in it for liberal news (MSNBC, CNN, etc.), trash/comedy (Jersey Shore, MTV, Tosh, CC), kids programming (Nick, CN), or network programming.

Lots of people watch none of that, and have DTV for Sunday Ticket, documentaries mostly in HD (Discovery, NatGeo, Science, History, etc.), and premium sports (NFL channel, NBA channel, MLB, Fox Soccer). For these people, if not for you, DTV>cable/Dish/internet.

We're talking about deals here, not your opinion on DTV vs. non-DTV.

Yes, if you want the Whole Home DVR service there is a $10 charge....$7 for DVR and $3 for Whole Home. The package comes with a free DVR receiver but you then have to pay the monthly fee to access the DVR/Whole Home service.

I just signed up. The rep said the viacom deal has been settled and you get nickjr and comedy central etc. I got a referral code FREE off e bay so I got an extra $10 off per month for 10 months. I think its a pretty good deal. Also, if you are in Boise, you can bundle with CenturyLink internet (phone + internet + directtv) for $99 a month.

Yep, after my contract ran out I went OTA and it's great (and FREE). Only thing I miss are some sports, but my cable internet gets ESPN3, so that helps.
I did the same two years ago. Its free and no hassle. woot

From the Directv website:

"You may have heard that Viacom is trying to upset customers with some very loud rhetoric about negotiations breaking down. Their statement, intended for dramatic effect, is completely false. Please know that we are indeed continuing to negotiate with Viacom so they can return the channels to our customers as soon as possible. Just last night, Viacom made a proposal for the return of the 17 channels they dropped from DIRECTV. Earlier this morning, we accepted all material terms for those channels including an increase that was more than fair. We are ready to sign that deal immediately. What’s holding things up right now is that they are insisting that we launch the EPIX movie channel (an extra channel that DIRECTV has never carried) at the additional cost of more than a half billion dollars. Whatever way you slice it, the main issue remains the same. Viacom’s total price tag to continue carrying channels is just too high and will adversely affect our customers. And so, as we have done every day since this began, we will be back on the phones negotiating with the Viacom executives tomorrow so we can get closer to a final deal. We are too close to turn back now. The fact is Viacom and DIRECTV need each other so we will get this done."
