Did "Fox News" Just Reveal The Identity of a Navy SEAL Team 6 Member (Osama Raid)
The author of a recently announced insider account of the raid that killed Usama bin Laden has been identified to Fox News as a 36-year-old former Navy SEAL Team 6 member from Alaska who also played a role in the high-profile rescue of an American captain kidnapped by Somali pirates.
The book, "No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission That Killed Osama Bin Laden," is set to hit shelves on Sept 11. It is penned under the pseudonym "Mark Owen," according to the publisher, but multiple sources told Fox News his name is in fact XXXXXXX. Bissonnette could be exposing himself to legal trouble, as the Pentagon has not vetted the account.
WTF?!?!?! Fox News is now ok with revealing the identity of Navy SEALS who were involved in the Osama raid/killing?
And seriously, it's not like this "Fox News" reporter (Justin Fishel) simply did not know about the privacy concerns of these specific Navy SEALS...because he wrote an article LAST YEAR about Navy SEALS trying to protect their identities:
Members of Navy SEAL team 6, the Special Operations unit responsible for killing Al Qaeda leader Usama bin Laden in Pakistan last Sunday, have expressed concerns about their safety and the safety of their families now that details of the mission have been made public.
Speaking to Marines at Camp Lejeune Thursday, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said the concerns were expressed to him directly a week ago when he met with members of the unit to congratulate them on their mission. Gates said the SEALs were mainly focused on their families and worried they could be subject to retaliatory attacks.
It's unclear where anybody ever got the idea that a free market results in low prices when the entire point of capitalism is to maximize profit and low prices are less profitable. Therefore the natural proclivity should be to collude and fix prices at the highest sustainable point.
Oh, it's illegal to collude and fix prices and whatnot as deemed by the gubmint? Who are they to say how a free market should work when it's a matter of divinity per Adam Smith whose book nobody bothered to read?
Assuming it is correct for an anonymous author being unreasonable in expecting anonymity... Do you think it is acceptable for Fox to release the guy's name? That is unbelievable.
They should no have released this. If they want to release details or pictures or whatever the hell else thats fine. Putting something like out there to the public isn't good for his personal safety. To be fair though he probably went out after he wrote the book and celebrated and had a few drinks then told everyone he writes under that pen name lol.
Unless the Pentagon was planning on turning a blind eye to an unauthorized account being released, his name was going to be made public eventually. Danman makes a good point in regards to Wikileaks, however.
