Help! Inherited Bose speaker wire w/ proprietary plugs

31,451 1,933 September 5, 2012 at 05:17 AM Get Bose Coupons
I just moved into a new house. The previous owners had a bunch of Bose systems which they (mostly) took with them. They left the in-wall speaker wire. Most of this has normal terminals. However, in the main TV room, the wire terminates in a proprietary Bose plug. How can I convert this to work with regular speakers with red/black connectors?

When I was searching, I found this [4electronicwarehouse.com] which essentially does the exact opposite of what I want. That allows normal speaker wire to be used with Bose speakers. I am either looking for an adapter that is Bose male -> speaker wire or a way to strip off the plug and use the underlying wire.

Thanks for any insight!

Why don't you get a new wallplate, pull the old one out, cut and strip the wire then attach to new wallplate????

Bose wire cutters will work just fine on that wire.

lol - just cut it. You need two wires for speakers. If there are more than that, use two and ignore the rest. This is not rocket science!

That's why I had question marks... although even if it were proprietary wire you still need some type of conductor so you could solder the damn conductor directly to the new wallplate plugs if you absolutely had to.

Is the Bose speaker plug in your OP what you're seeing in the house? If so, it only uses two wires (just like any other speaker). So, you pull the adapter plate off, cut the wires, get a new adapter plate, install the wires into that and attach the plate to the wall, you're done. As dealgate wrote "This is not rocket science".

Thanks -- I figured that this was probably the case but I didn't know if Bose used some proprietary signal as well that would require the Bose speaker to decode. Good thing I own some Monster wire cutters.... laugh out loud

There is no wallplate (ATM). They just have the plugs coming out of holes in the wall. Which is my wife isn't too thrilled.

you got to grease it with snake oil, and then you can use the monster cable cutters.

after that, you'll need to use your portable gold plating machine to add a nice coat of gold. only then will it work.
