Deal Details

Hello SlickDealers:

I didn't see this posted, BUT, I'm sharing because I think this is great for those who just can't let a home phone go and still want pre-paid convenience!

ClickMe! [straighttalk.com]

I know some of you are going to Thumbs Down this deal because of the upfront cost -- but it's worth sharing with someone in my opinion.

I don't have a link to proof-- but I believe this will run on Verizon's network. Verizon has a device that looks just like this but in their flavor AND with a 2 year contract.

You buy the "Wireless" Home Phone gateway for $99.99 and is $15/ for 30 days of UNLIMITED home phone service for local and long distance!

If it really runs off Verizon, you could use this service wherever Verizon works in your area as a home based market. Its compatible with your existing home phone (Corded and Cordless) and for $15 monthly, you can't go wrong if you're trying to keep a home phone WITHOUT broadband internet!

OR, pay $30 a month and get UNLIMITED INTERNATIONAL calls to a set list of countries!

Please share your feedback. It's available starting 09/21/2012. look around

I guess for the most part if you can power it from your car you can make car phone too. shake head
Fine print...

** Provided the battery is charged and the phone plugged into the Straight Talk Wireless Home Phone device does not require an external power source.

So maybe no car needed...

_If you are not satisfied with your device, simply return it to us within 30 days and we will replace it or give you your money back. It's that simple. Straight Talk Service Cards, and /or or unused minutes are non-refundable. It takes up to 30 business days to process the return and credit your account. Credit for returned phones and/or accessories will appear on your credit card statement between 1-2 billing cycles.

SO they replace your landline (thing on a wooden or steel utility pole that is a wire into your house) with a Router/ Cell phone server device and port your number (switch carriers: Landline company to Cell company) What handset do you use with this? Is it Pink?

Just got the Verizon version of this to replace a landline, saving about $15/month. The Verizon version (this is the same unit, and the service is probably on Verizon) costs $20/month, but the device is free with a two-year contract, so this isn't really that slick, since the $5 difference over two years is $120, versus $100 for the StraightTalk unit (although 20 bucks is 20 bucks).
Basically, you just plug your existing home phones (corded or cordless) into the back of the unit, and then use it like you always have, except instead of the calls going out over wire, they go out over the cellular network. You still get a dial tone, and the unit has a GPS in it for reporting your location to 911.
Its actually pretty cool!
I think its actually pretty significant in that it could be the final blow to the landline providers, and also the harbinger of cellular-delivered internet and TV programming (please somebody give cable some competition!)

Can you tell me more about the Verizon Equivalent. I checked the Straight Talk and it is available and Verizon says not available ?? It is a rural locale but not 35 miles from a city of 700k. ?? The CS rep acted like they had no idea what I was talking about. What is the service titled at Verizon.
Thanks-

Land line is very usefull trust me for now you dont see thing could happen but if it is happen you will know how land line can save your life......
Yep. We live in MS and have had our share of hurricanes and TS. During Katrina we had Sprint and service was down for over a week. All of my neighbors that had ATT for their landline still had service.

I will never again be without a landline. I LOATHE talking on my cell phone.
