Deal Details

Hello SlickDealers:

I didn't see this posted, BUT, I'm sharing because I think this is great for those who just can't let a home phone go and still want pre-paid convenience!

ClickMe! [straighttalk.com]

I know some of you are going to Thumbs Down this deal because of the upfront cost -- but it's worth sharing with someone in my opinion.

I don't have a link to proof-- but I believe this will run on Verizon's network. Verizon has a device that looks just like this but in their flavor AND with a 2 year contract.

You buy the "Wireless" Home Phone gateway for $99.99 and is $15/ for 30 days of UNLIMITED home phone service for local and long distance!

If it really runs off Verizon, you could use this service wherever Verizon works in your area as a home based market. Its compatible with your existing home phone (Corded and Cordless) and for $15 monthly, you can't go wrong if you're trying to keep a home phone WITHOUT broadband internet!

OR, pay $30 a month and get UNLIMITED INTERNATIONAL calls to a set list of countries!

Please share your feedback. It's available starting 09/21/2012. look around

People still pay for home phone?
When you are home... Use your cellphone as home phone... as simple as that.

Or, carry your house everywhere you go and have no need for cell phone...

Basically, you just plug your existing home phones (corded or cordless) into the back of the unit, and then use it like you always have, except instead of the calls going out over wire, they go out over the cellular network. You still get a dial tone, and the unit has a GPS in it for reporting your location to 911...
So that means if you have some sort of power so you can plug in the main unit, then plug your phone (home phone) to the main unit, you can use it the same way as a cell phone, correct?
This is brilliant!

So you mean to tell me there are other people besides those on house arrest that use home phones!? Wink
Before I answer your question, let me guess. One, you either don't have home alarm or you have a dedicated cell phone line for the home alarm. Two, you don't live in an area where you might get hit by natural disaster such as tornado, snow storm, or hurricanes where you might lose all your power, do you? Three, do you really think you will never have a chance to get a house arrest in your life? EEK!

googlevoice + obi100 works perfectly and only costs $35 on a slickdeal. Regular price is still only $45 I think.

I use mine for both fax & phone. Its great but the uptime is far from 100% Despite what all the people have said in this thread, googlevoice has problems very regularly but its usually resolved quickly. Since its free there are no support #s to call, etc. I can't complain, its great 97% of the day, but I have had to wait up to 30 minutes to make a call / fax so keep that in mind if time is money.
does google voice support fax? Confused

Yes. I've sent hundreds of faxes over my obi100 with my GV number.

If you're just looking for a home-style phone, but don't actually need a hard-wired landline, here's another possibility ...

Just uses your cell phone for calls, so no need for another account.

Can you tell me more about the Verizon Equivalent. I checked the Straight Talk and it is available and Verizon says not available ?? It is a rural locale but not 35 miles from a city of 700k. ?? The CS rep acted like they had no idea what I was talking about. What is the service titled at Verizon.
Thanks-
It's called Verizon Wireless Home Phone Connect: http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2...oneId=5847

I had the original and got the newer one too. Worked great. The newer one is smaller and works the same. Works great for $20/mo unlimited U.S. calls and just jack in your cordless phone system. This does not give you data nor does it supply service for pacemakers, tv guides, dvr, home security systems, or fax.

What happens if your phone line goes down? What happens if you can't power your house phone/alarm to work anyways? I have had that happen in the past and it sucks but I could still use my cell phone service, granted I do not have to deal with tornadoes, snow storms, or hurricanes but we do get monsoons that have wrecked ton of havoc around here. I personally am switching from my comcast triple play down to double play and am going to get the obi100 later this month.

When was the last time there was a phone line outage?

On the other hand Comcast phone is only as reliable as your Internet and power. I'm sure those go down far more frequently than your phone line
