I've never built my own machine before. I'm looking for some advice on components. I want it to be stable and fast, but I don't intend to do any gaming, so graphics performance is not critical. I'm strongly considering an Intel i5 3570K processor which seem to be in the $220 ballpark. I assume I'll want a Z77 (1155) motherboard and 8GB of RAM. My assumption is that the stronger 4000 graphics on the K-series processor would eliminate my need for a separate video card and save me some money there although I'm aware it's more expensive than the non-K series. I'm not entirely clear on which motherboards support overclocking and which don't. I have no intention of getting too extreme with that, but may mess with it to get a small performance boost. I do intend to heavily use Windows Media Center with my HDHomerun Prime. I'll be running Windows 7 on it, so am factoring about $100 for the OEM version of that. Ideally, I'd like to be able to build something solid for around $600 or less if that's feasible. I think the i5 3570k is a little bit overkill for my needs, but I'm factoring in a little bit of "future-proofing" as I don't plan on replacing the machine for several years.
Thanks in advance to anyone who chimes in on this!
