The same thing JUST happened to me too. I got a call from Chase Mastercard asking me if I had placed an order for $540 at walmart.com. I tried to log into my account and my and email and password were changed. I contacted walmart.com and asked them to change it back. They did and was able to log in and see what they ordered and all of the info. The chose instore pickup too. The order is ready to be picked up at the store! Little do they know that the walmart security and the police are waiting for them to pick up the order as well
I totally believe that this was an inside job. I have been on the net for 15 years and like the OP I have never had anything like this happen before.
I had my walmart.com account hacked a few days ago and the same thing, someone purchased a laptop and had a site to store. I contacted walmart.com within 3 hours of the purchase, and they cancelled the order marked it as fraud and sent me confirmation and reset my account password so i could change the email and password.
A few days later I get an email from walmart.com telling me it has been shipped.
The email said any questions please reply. I replied telling them i called, they cancelled it due to fraud. I called the store manager in TN,, 1st I had to explain to her what site-to-store was... .then i told her to call the police when someone comes to collect it. She didnt seem interested.
Since then I have had various emails from walmart.com saying they can do nothing about the order that its shipped. I have replied and told them this is fraud, that the money has not come out of my account... but the order still went through.. this is very suspect.. and its interesting that someone would say its an inside job.
Guess what, I checked the dns records of the site when I could not sign in as normal and it did resolve back to walmart.com according to whois.arin.net its registered to walmart.com
funny that the order would still ship after it was cancelled within hours of being ordered and the money was returned.
I received two confirmation emails from Walmart.com for orders I never placed. When I checked my CC activity, it showed two pending charges from Walmart.com. After chatting with a Walmart.com rep, I learned the following:
Brandee: We learned some user login information (names and passwords) for an isolated number of Walmart.com customers may have been externally obtained by someone
Brandee: There was no indication of an internal security breach of our system or accounts, but rather, it appears this matter occurred through an outside source
Brandee: We’re continuing to investigate the matter. There are unrelated ways that parties obtain user names and passwords, such as a phishing expedition, computer malware or another outside source
You should check your Walmart.com accounts to make sure you don't have erroneous orders, and you should change your username and pw. If you're like everyone else in this world who uses the same username and pw for multiple sites, than you're in trouble, as it seems that they have accessed that information.
Call Walmart at 866-625-0507 to complain. I've already contacted CNN
They need to at least provide us with credit monitoring so this doesn't lead to further issues.
From what you've posted, it sounds like Walmart was *not* hacked, but that you were phished or keylogged or something else outside of Walmart's control.
It's not an isolated issue; They are well aware of it, and have stated so. It's not a single phishing incident; It seems to me that one of their partners has had a security breach and has lead to usernames and pw's being leaked. See what she states below.
