Amazon rant

2,743 465 October 1, 2017 at 03:52 AM
So I've been an Amazon prime member for 10+ years and i share the account with my mom. She is the primary. I order about 15-20 times a month without any problems all this time. Today I go on and order 3 small orders under $2 two with slow shipping one with two day shipping. The a few hours later i happen to sign in to my bank account and i have a charge for $107 for a prime account. We just paid the yearly fee in August so i call up Amazon to ask what's going on and they said my selection of two day shipping prompted them to AUTOMATICALLY sign me up for a prime membership. I didn't get any pop up, an email, nothing just a $107 charge out of nowhere.

After giving them all my info and my mothers they said yeah everything is correct. Must have been a computer glitch. Now I'm stuck waiting for them to issue a refund and for it to clear my bank. I'm just disgusted with their answer and i have no way to know if it will happen again. There was no warning, no email, didn't show up in order history, absolutely nothing but a charge to my checking account.

I hope that they don't do this to others or again to me. It's ridiculous that Amazon can just take money anytime they want without asking, without any order placed just for no reason whatsoever.

Why aren't you using a credit card instead of debit? That's a noob mistake.

Perhaps the banks won't give a line of credit to a guy who lives in his mom's basement.

yeah debit cards = bad. If it weren't the same card I need for ATM use, I wouldn't even carry one in my wallet.

You heard them. It was a glitch. They apologized and will fix it. While they do offer hooking your bank account to your Amazon account it's a horrible idea. Always use a CC or a GC.

Problem is fark ups like this could screw up being a secondary on his ma's Prime account. Once your off someones Prime these days ...thats it. You have to get your own.

Things might never ever be the same.

I'm still confused why he didn't just buy those $2 things at dollar general & use his employee discount card. Maybe there's no room on his bike's handle bars for all those bags?

last time they upgraded my non-prime account to Prime after I ordered something. I didn't choose two-day shipping. I thought Jeff Bezos needed extra cash to support his ex wife's kids. I let it slide.

I have a credit card and enough giftcards on my account to cover the cost but since I didn't order the prime i also didn't select the payment method. They just took it from my account by themselves.

Fortunately I am still listed as secondary on her account and they were able to see that. Just no telling if it's going to screw up again. My bank blocked them from placing reoccurring charges.

Only problem with being a secondary on somebody else's account is I think it's pretty much against the rules unless you live in the same household. Then again I'm a little fuzzy on the rules for Prime since I've never had an actual Prime account outside of a free trial as I refuse to give Jeff Bezos more than the gift card money his company gives me for my gaming shit I trade into them.

So it wasn't a glitch. You must have the default payment as your bank and/or failed to select a payment method so they had their pick. Don't blame them for your mistake.
