Anybody know how long it takes to get the $200 Amazon gift card from this promotion? I signed up for the 3 bill pay to qualify since I didn't have the direct deposit and got the redemption code a week ago.
Also my plan was to use the $200 and upgrade to the 32GB Kindle Fire HD since they only ship the 16GB automatically. Hopefully they won't have any restrictions on the gift card.
It is regular Amazon GC(200$) ,I got it in 7-9 days after redemption
Oooh, sweet! It came in the mail today. I just ordered the 32GB Kindle Fire HD 7", fast power adapter, Timbuk2 Twister case, and matte screen protectors with the 30% off Amazon accessories code for a whopping $87.44 out of pocket. So, so awesome!
Yeah, I got the 32 GB Nexus 7 last week with the Office Depot deal for $230, but I do believe it's going back.

1. When does this promotion end?
2. Is there a downside of opening and closing checking accounts? I did one for bank of the west and never closed it down, I just used up all the money
It says limited time only but no specific date. When I checked today, it's still on-going.
But when you open the account, 1st bank will run your credit score with hard inquiries. It means it will lower your credit score by several points. Also you can't close your account within 6 month. (you can but there is some penalties for early account closure).
I signed up on.. I think the 3rd of January. I funded the account with a direct Xfer from my primary bank account. the money took 2 days to get there. On the 5th I set up bill pay and scheduled 3 payments to 3 vendors. Since it was the weekend the payments wouldn't go thru till monday the 7th. I got an email asking me to call them to finalize my new account.
I called on monday and the girl asked if I knew about their promotion for a kindle fire HD, I feigned ignorance. She said to make 3 bill pays, and I told her I had 3 go thru that morning. She checked and saw them and said I should get my redemption code in the bankmail soon. I got it on Friday the 11th. I then used the code late that night to redeem the $200 amazon GC. I got a confirmation that it "would be shipped soon" a few minutes later. So just hoping to get it soon now
I have been so torn about what tablet to get. I was gonna get the kindle fire HD 8.9in with student prime discount for $250, but I think I might get a refurb samsung tab2 10.1 from a 3rd party Amazon vendor. As long as it's covered by Amazon's A-Z coverage I'm not too worried. If it comes in and isn't perfect I'll return it and reconsider the kindle FHD. Oh I'm also using an amazon GC i'm gonna redeem from expotv.com
I believe you have to report IRS. Reporting on only items > $600 is a myth. You have to report IRS no matter how small the bonus item is. You get 1099 form from the sponsors if item is > $600. Correct me if I am wrong.
I can confirm that this is taxable income. I got a 1099-INT for this. FirstBank reports it as $200 of "Interest". Since a 1099-INT was generated, it would be unwise to not report it on your return... the IRS already knows about it.
This is still going on so I'm giving it a go. I'm going the "bill pay" route but noticed in the fine print it says I will be billed $5 a month if I don't make at least 3 payments. Does anyone know if you can cancel bill pay after the first month?
Yes it did for me. The problem I had was finding different vendors. I have 3 credits cards but because they are all with chase bank they were considered a single vendor. I did verify that PayPal counts as a vendor and it's easy to put $1 in that account.
Also, you may or may not have noticed that they will charge you $5 every month that you don't use bill pay to 3 different vendors. That's crappy but oh well. I've been meaning to check and see if I can cancel bill pay or if I'll need to make 3 transactions every month and cancel the account 6 months from now.
Expect a phone call from the bank after you make your account. They will try to get you to sign up for all kinds of stuff which in the long run will cost you more money. Just say no no and no.
For my reward I decided to get the $200 Amazon gift card.
