I have Vista installed on my PC now. I was wondering, since I see news that Windows 8 Pro has downgrade rights, does that mean I can buy the Windows 8 Pro Upgrade and upgrade the Vista PC and then downgrade to 7 Pro (which is what I want). Right now it's about $70 cheaper to do this so hopefully this works this way and someone would know. Thanks!
Downgrade rights are only available for OEM license agreement. So if a large company buys a stack of PCs with Windows 8 Pro installed, they can extend the use of their existing volume license key for Windows 7 Pro and activate it.
Buying Windows 8 Pro upgrade does not grant you downgrade rights for that machine. Pre-installed OEM and purchased OEM editions follow the same agreement. It's different from upgrade and retail editions.
