Thread Details

After spending almost an hour this morning going through the paper ads and online ads of seven different grocery/drug stores looking for a deal on Kellogg's PopTarts, I got really frustrated and thought, why don't we have a thread in the DS Forum for deal seeking on a particular item? I know there is a "Help Me Find a Deal" forum on SD but most of those in that forum are looking for tech deals, car deals, phone deals, etc. Besides, most of the DS folks never venture outside of the DS forum anyway.

You should limit your deal-seeking request to grocery/drugstore items only, i.e, milk, cereal, diapers, shampoo, toothpaste, etc. No car batteries, tires, phones, computers, appliances, blah, blah, blah......

Anyhow, if the Mods think this thread is a waste of space, they can just delete it. Big Grin

Definitely like the idea, thought the same thing myself a few times. I wonder if it would be effective to have a wiki that tracks the request and matchups as well.

Great idea! Can I just suggest that those seeking a deal make sure they list their location so we know what stores might be in their region.

I also like the thread idea. But rather than listing location to give us an idea of what might be in their region, just list available stores!

I think this is a great idea too, so I'll start by trying to help out this deal search/request.

I know RiteAid has a great deal on BW this week if you have the coupons:
Dove BW on sale 2/$7
Use $2/2 VideoValues Q and
Use $2/1 insert Q (9/30 RP regional) ex10/28
Get $2 +up on 2 (limit3)
= $1 MM on 2!

There's a Savingstar Q to get $5 back for spending $20 on Unilever products as well.

My store was all out of the BW (no surprise there), so I got a raincheck. I hope to find stock by Sunday as the insert Q expires then.

I think it might be easier if we just go post-by-post for now. If someone asks for a deal, we can just quote their post and respond. No wiki clean-up needed.

That's what I was thinking, too. I know we all have different stores available and if someone responds to a request with say... Target ... I don't have a Target so I would just rep them with a "thank you" and move on. Smilie

I think CzarCzar meant we should list the available stores in the deal request not just in the response.

But, you're thinking it wouldn't be a waste of time for the responder, even if the requester doesn't have a particular store, because someone else who reads the post might have a Target and needs the same thing as in the request? Hope that made sense!

Am I reading all this right?

I'm always looking for a deal on Iams dry kitten food, any size bag. We just adopted 2 hungry Persian kittens and boy, can they eat!

We have CVS, RA, WAGs, Target, WM, Safeway, Harris Teeter, Giant Food, Petsmart, and Petco.

Thanks! Smilie

I got ya, for now... if this catches on I'm just thinking we could wind up with multiple requests for the same thing as, unfortunately, most folks don't take the time to search threads, and might miss out on something as well. Anyway, I still love the suggestion, let's see how this catches on Smilie

Example above, lol... the phrase "I'm always looking for a deal on" would be something that would be permanent in the Wiki, as opposed to something someone just wants/needs now/one time. Agreed though, still could turn into a lot of Wiki work!

If the person requesting the deal takes the extra time to list what stores they have available to them, that would be great.

I see what you are saying but adding it to the wiki each week would require changes and cleanup and all that.

I just wanted this thread to kind of be about spur-of-the-moment requests. For example, I was in a rush to find a Poptart deal because I had 8 coupons expiring yesterday. I did check the wiki's of the weekly ads and the paper ads I have on hand but I didn't see anything.

Another example might be if someone normally shops wags but not CVS and they ask "hey, is there a deal on Poptarts anywhere? I have coupons expiring next week." Someone might respond with "Not this week but hold your coupons because CVS will have an ECB deal NEXT week; buy xyz, get $X.xx ECB."

Does that make sense?
