Motorola on Friday confirmed that it has abandoned development of Webtop — software that enabled smartphones to power laptops via the Lapdock accessory. The company explained the decision in a statement provided to CNET, bluntly attributing the move to a lack of consumer adoption.

morotola's official statement:
Quote :

Motorola's Webtop app helps users extend their smartphone experience to larger screens. While consumers around the world have adopted Webtop and the concept spurred a lot of innovation in the industry, the adoption has not been strong enough to justify continued resources being allocated to developing Webtop on future devices. We have also seen development of the Android operating system focus on the inclusion of more desktoplike features. Beginning with Photon Q and Droid Razr M/Droid Razr HD/Droid Razr Maxx HD, we will no longer be including Webtop on our products moving forward.

One of my dad's favorite things about his Bionic is the lapdock. Sad they are discontinuing it.
Clearly Google's idea.

Cant imagine how much they saved by not bothering to add in the necessities to make the lapdock work the razr maxx hd buit it must have been worth it. i was all over the news updates for the Bionic but when the phone released for 300 + 300 for the lapdock, i kept scratching my head. the idea is there. but the price is just silly.

I just recently bought him the Bionic for his birthday back in October. Bionic was $225 brand new from ebay. Bionic lapdock was $45.

All the accessories for it are dirt cheap now too since everyone forgot about it when the RAZR was launched right after it.

The Bionic will also be getting Jellybean at some point, so pretty satisfied with Motorola's support for it despite them screwing over other devices. I've learned when it comes to Motorola (besides the Droid X2 and Droid 3), that if you're not buying the Droid line from Verizon, expect pretty much no support for your device.
