Here's [gpuboss.com] a good site to compare those 2 video cards. I'd recommend, if you can budget it, going to the GTX 970, which I realize is about $100 more.
Thanks. I got the feeling I might want to do that. My biggest complaint is that if the goal is to dump my $200 Dell eGC, the ONLY 960 or 970 Dell carries is the PNY XLR8. Reviews on the 960 look great--not so great on the 970.

Can you trade in/sell your Dell GC with one of those gift card exchange sites? I've never used them, but they're popular, esp. at this time of the year.. Not sure how much you could get for a $200 Dell GC, though.

About the reviews for the 970, is that from Dell's site or are you also seeing similar comments about PNY's 970 on Amazon and Newegg? If it's reference-based, I don't see why it would be a bad card.

Unfortunately it's a 90-day promotional GC (from a TV purchase). I couldn't get much for it (70 cents on the dollar maybe?). Alternatively I could buy a PS4 on a good sale from Dell (with 20% Discover CB), flip it, and use that money to buy a better brand card. Lot of work though.

If you do live nearby Microcenter, there's a good deal for the Intel i5 4690k for $180.

http://www.microcenter.com/produc..._Processor

Better yet, if you buy a motherboard bundle, you can save more. Any of these motherboards will do:

http://www.microcenter.com/produc...X_LGA_1150

http://www.microcenter.com/produc...otherboard

Should fit perfectly along with your other parts of memory, ssd, etc.

If you buy it on newegg (Core i5 for example, you'd be spending $60 more. I am not sure how much tax is in your state. So I can't figure that out.) Even if you didn't pay tax on Newegg, I doubt its any cheaper than you're getting from MicroCenter (correct me if you find out).

Good luck.
Thanks, comes out to $270+$24 tax with the asrock z97 pro4 with a $10 rebate. I'm considering it now.

I'm in NY so tax is around 8.875% if I remember correctly.

Needing some input...

posting for my son, wondering what should be upgraded next...

Started out with this system last year:
iBUYPOWER NE610FX [newegg.com]

So far upgraded parts in RED

Tried playing Assassins Creed Syndicate, but graphics get all distorted ?? I guess thats what Im trying to describe.
Was going to purchase Just Cause 3 but hearing that AMD graphics are not doing good with the game...

Other Games playing fine:
* GTA 5
* StarWars Battlefront
* Assassins Creed Unity
* Just Cause 2

Would upgrading the Processor be next?

Thank you in advance, any input will be appreciated.

Hate to break it to you, but that rig is totally under-performing. I mean you got a low-end gpu in a R5 230! That's not a gaming card at all. Best bet is that you invest in a new card. Other games work, because they don't require much GPU power, but I am not sure how you're able to run GTA 5 though. Assassin Creed requires AMD R9 270 and above as minimum specs anyways.

I guess I didnt make myself clear... the red is what has been upgraded already.
He took out the R5 230 and put in a R9 270

Just wondering if the processor is worth upgrading to that mother board.
He can only do so much at a time as he has to save his money to get the items for upgrade.

My bad then. You state the chipset is 70g? I am guessing that's a low vrm phase mobo. Might want to step that up. Unless you meant it's a 970 chipset, then you should be ok provided that the mobo has quality phases and vrm on it. I really don't think that processor can run well with the 270 card. Even when overclocked it may be enough. The GTA and Assassin Creed would benefit with a more powerful processor like the AMD FX 8xxx series or Intel.
