This thread originally from Chokaay. I tried to bump and could not since it was so old. Give reps to him if you rep.

NOTE: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BUY YOUR TV FROM COSTCO TO GET THIS WARRANTY! NOR DO YOU HAVE TO BE A COSTCO MEMBER.

BETTER SquareTrade TV Warranty: (<$500) $29.99, ($500-$1K) $59.99, ($1K+) $99.99 @ Costco.com & B&M
Since the 35% SquareTrade coupon thread is generating so much excitement, and I noticed many people begging for coupons in that thread are looking to warranty TV's, I thought I'd post my own thread to help SDers get a BETTER SquareTrade TV Warranty for CHEAPER (even after the 35% coupon)!

Depending on the price of the TV, it MAY be a better deal to buy your SquareTrade TV Warranty from COSTCO or COSTCO.COM (instead of Squaretrade.com directly):

TV's under $500: $29.99
TV's $500 - $1,000: $59.99
TV's over $1,000: $99.99

For those prices you get 3 years AND your SquareTrade warranty DOESN'T begin until AFTER your manufacturer's warranty runs out as opposed to running parallel like when you purchase on SquareTrade.com. Thus, your TV will have 1 yr manufacturer's warranty (typically) + 3 years SquareTrade warranty = 4 years warranty.

If you buy your TV from Costco, you get 1 year from Costco free AND your SquareTrade warranty DOESN'T begin until AFTER that coverage ends. Thus, your TV will have 1 yr manufacturer's warranty (typically) + 1 year Costco extended warranty + 3 years SquareTrade warranty = 5 years warranty.

In comparison, buying TV warranties directly from SquareTrade will give you less years (only 3 years total since warranties run parallel to manufacturer's warranty), and typically are more expensive (especially if your TV is $1,000 or more).

3 Years (For TVs Under $500)

3 Years (For TVs: $500 to $1,000)

3 Years (For TVs Over $1,000)

This is not new as they have had this since I've been a Costco member from last year.

So if I bought my tv a week ago and didn't get it from Costco, then I can still use this warranty?

yes, you have 60 days from your receipt to purchase a Costco warranty, just have to be a Costco member.

I apologize for the fuzzy quality of the thumbnail attachment, but I saw this at Costco the other day and noticed their Squaretrade warranties differ substantially depending on what you buy.

You might find this helpful. It details some differences between Costco's TV and Computer extended warranties.

While the computer plans start from day 1 of your purchase and cover drops and spills, the TV plans begin when the manufacturer's warranty ends (usually after the 2nd year if you bought the TV at Costco, so with the 3 year extension it comes to 5 years total) and do NOT cover drops and spills.

Also you have the option of purchasing the warranty at Costco seperately even if you bought the TV at a different store. You can't do this with their computer extended warranties; that's strictly for computers bought at Costco.

No need to be a costco member. Can purchase at costco.com. $1.50 surcharge for cheapest plan up to $5 surcharge for $99 plan if not a member.

There is also some confusion about whether the TV "price" to be used for Costco Square Trade pricing is the original price of a TV at Costco or the selling price of the TV after Costco coupon/IR.

I called square trade about this when i got in on the frys deal for the 47lm6200. the sale price is $500, but the original price is $1500. If you buy the $1500 coverage you just have to send in a screen shot of the original price and you get that much coverage.

You just need to pay for the high price bracket is all

Can a Costco member, a friend of mine, purchase a SquareTrade warranty for me (not a Costco member)?

ok so there is no physical shipment? It just comes via e-mail?

I want to buy for my 50" TOshiba i bought for $399 from bestbuy.

Any advantage of costco member buying vs non-costco?

If no advantage, i'll just pay the $1.50 surcharge.
