This thread originally from Chokaay. I tried to bump and could not since it was so old. Give reps to him if you rep.

NOTE: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BUY YOUR TV FROM COSTCO TO GET THIS WARRANTY! NOR DO YOU HAVE TO BE A COSTCO MEMBER.

BETTER SquareTrade TV Warranty: (<$500) $29.99, ($500-$1K) $59.99, ($1K+) $99.99 @ Costco.com & B&M
Since the 35% SquareTrade coupon thread is generating so much excitement, and I noticed many people begging for coupons in that thread are looking to warranty TV's, I thought I'd post my own thread to help SDers get a BETTER SquareTrade TV Warranty for CHEAPER (even after the 35% coupon)!

Depending on the price of the TV, it MAY be a better deal to buy your SquareTrade TV Warranty from COSTCO or COSTCO.COM (instead of Squaretrade.com directly):

TV's under $500: $29.99
TV's $500 - $1,000: $59.99
TV's over $1,000: $99.99

For those prices you get 3 years AND your SquareTrade warranty DOESN'T begin until AFTER your manufacturer's warranty runs out as opposed to running parallel like when you purchase on SquareTrade.com. Thus, your TV will have 1 yr manufacturer's warranty (typically) + 3 years SquareTrade warranty = 4 years warranty.

If you buy your TV from Costco, you get 1 year from Costco free AND your SquareTrade warranty DOESN'T begin until AFTER that coverage ends. Thus, your TV will have 1 yr manufacturer's warranty (typically) + 1 year Costco extended warranty + 3 years SquareTrade warranty = 5 years warranty.

In comparison, buying TV warranties directly from SquareTrade will give you less years (only 3 years total since warranties run parallel to manufacturer's warranty), and typically are more expensive (especially if your TV is $1,000 or more).

3 Years (For TVs Under $500)

3 Years (For TVs: $500 to $1,000)

3 Years (For TVs Over $1,000)

Have a Costco SquareTrade question...

Purchased TV from BestBuy on 12/20/15. Forgot to go on SquareTrade and get the warranty so they wont do it now since its past 30 days.

Costco will still do the warranty since they allow up to 60 days from purchase. I am not a Costco member though. Does that matter? Is it ok If I sign up with Costco (was planning on anyways) and then get the SquareTrade warranty after the TV purchase date?

Or, should I have my dad (Costco member already) buy the warranty and then just transfer it to me?

It's up to the individual manufacturers

so if i wanted to buy a Samsung TV from Best Buy, would I have to contact Samsung to find out if they are an authorized retailer for Costco?

The list of authorized retailers are done by the manufacturers. Costco has nothing to do with the warranty except you are buying it through them from squaretrade.

So for recent Wal-Mart TV clearance fiasco,
1) buying from Walmart online at say, $700
2) Discover price protection ♂ get $500 back in check.
3) you can still buy $60 warranty from Costco / square trade for cover it for its original cost which is $700

Does that sound good ?

Thanks Smilie
Went ahead and purchased Costco SquareTrade plan for TVs below $1000...
$200 TV purchase .. this Extra $60 is so worth it ... covering it for its full price..

Guys I know this is a old thread, but since the plans are active and still sold with same rate, thought of checking here..

so I purchased this Costco plan through my relative. He forwarded me the email to register.. it has plan number and coverage details.

when I try to register in square trade website, it asks for the plan number, email with which the plan was purchased and the last name associated with the purchase.

I was under an impression that we'd get some unique registration link or something with which we can register and eliminate the Costco member dependency. So will their name stay on the plan and is it like only they can use this plan for TV s owned by them? can I still be used for the TV purchased with my name?
