One more thing, before you do anything, you need to find the windows 8 activation key on your laptop; so that after you restore the windows 8 from the 8gb usb, windows will ask you for the key to activate. To find the activation key on your laptop, just download and install Belarc Advisor from this website: http://pcsupport.about.com/gi/o.h...nload.html

Run the Belarc Advisor, then you will see the activation key for Windows 8 on your laptop.
I tried to do the same steps. But after installing the SSD onto the Vivobook and putting in the USB drive, it is able to load from the USB to install Windows but none of the options (Recovery, refresh etc.) work. Do you need to add the SSD drive as a boot option in the BIOS. I see the SSD being detected but it is currently not a boot option. The USB drive shows up as a boot option and I get the prompt to install Windows but after I choose the keyboard, the rest of the options i try do not let me install the OS. I am trying a Samsung 830 SSD here and I am not sure if I need to do a diskpart or something. Any help?

FWIW, MS has an extended return period -- through the end of the month -- for these. I'm not sure what that means as far as warranty is concerned. Though it seems to me that if they'd normally do instore warranty for 30 days or whatever then they should do the same for the extended period.

I've noticed that they've wiped all mention of this from their website (and unfortunately, my receipt only links to the return policy which they've now updated, but this is what it used to say:

Extended Holiday Return / Exchange Policy

Holiday gift purchases made between November 1, 2012 and December 31, 2012 qualify for an extended return period as follows:
Products, subscriptions and services (except for Mobile Phones and related products) that would otherwise be eligible for return or exchange within thirty (30) days from the date of purchase will instead be eligible for return or exchange until January 31, 2013.
i tried to return my laptop, but they refuse, saying that i have past the 30 days deadline for hardware return.

anyone want to buy mine? nothing wrong with it.

Bummer. Did you refer to the policy? Seems pretty clear. I'd ask to speak to a manager.

Was this online only? I've been putting off dealing with my bad space bar. I was planning to go tomorrow or Sat -- but I got mine at the store. Maybe that'll make a difference?

Still, I can't see how they can't stand by the policy. I'd push back, but that's what I do. I suppose you could contest it with your credit card if you want to go to the trouble.

i got mine at their ms.com store; I heard that online laptop can only return to their warehouse and not at their b&m store.

Reminder. This is a good time to do windows pro upgrade. I think it's worth the $15, if you registered for that deal. Expires Thursday.

Anyone having touchscreen issues? Ican't swipe from the left (switch app) or the right (open charms). I did the pro upgrade and now (and it's possible they are not related -- I may not have used the swipe function right afterward and just noticed it today).

Now I'm really kicking myself for not returning/exchanging this thing because of thespacebar issues. Waited until the end of the exchange period and decided I didn't want to hassle with reinstalling everything and that I could live with the keyboard. What a mistake!

Anyway, is there an ASUS touchscreen driver anyone knows up that I could reinstall? I tried screen calibration and that didn't help. Any thoughts appreciated.

Edit: and... we're back. FIXED (for now)

The vivobook seems to have gone nutty for a bit. I tried a couple restarts which fixed nothing then tried resetting things. I think the issue is the windows pro update launched some MS Mouse/keyboard installer app that for some reason couldn't find anything. Once I "completed" that I had to go in and redo my touchpad settings (I'm using the Samsung touchpad drivers). That brought those back but touchscreen still didn't work.I tried calibrating (search/settings/ "calibrate touch") the touchscreen multiple times. Nothing worked. Finally for kicks I hit the button to reset calibration and that did it.

Weird.

God Ihatethis keyboard!

Question

I have installed office 2010 on my touchscreen windows 8 Asus Vivo Book.

I got my other touchscreen windows 8 Asus Vivo book back from Microsoft store ( it had the raised touchpad).

so I have two.

I have acquired Office 2013 (professional plus) and from what I read is that office 2013 is a one pc use. You cannot install it on more than one device. I am not sure if this 100% true.
Also I read that you do not need to uninstall 2010 to install 2013.

so I need office on both Laptops. One is for the boy to use for school. Would you try and install 2013 on both?
Is 2013 worth the hassle over 2010? I can install the 2010 on at least 3 pcs if not more.

I am just looking for someone that might have some hands on knowledge of this.

Thanks

Was having slow computer issues, 4.0 score after 12 gb ram and a Intel Centreno 6250 wireless / Bluetooth upgrade. So i decided to uninstall all intel softwares and drivers, restarted after every one of them. now i have several "unknown devices: under device manager.

Went to asus website and saw this warning Note!! If your system contains IRST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology) or Nvidia VGA driver, please read below issues thoroughly and follow the driver installing SOP to upgrade your system.

Any advice on how i can install this back?

Any s400 owners getting random beeps? Like you're just rolling along in your browser and you'll get four or five simple beeps (like old-school bios beeps) in a row. And then they'll go away, only to show up a few days later?

Nothing odd seems to be happening to the machine. The sound is the same on as the notification bar sound (in Sounds/File Explorer).I just changed that to something wacky. If my beeps now come back as church chimes, I'll at least have a clue as to what's triggering it. But that's all I've got. If anyone else has seen this issue, chime in (chime, get it? LMAO I'l be here all week!)
